Improvements to Photo Viewing Experience

I love Plex and use it for all my video and music needs. However, I feel that is falls short when it comes to photos. For instance here is a list of things that can be improved.

My List:

  • ability to view live/playable ‘.gif’ files
  • ability to view photos in a timeline
  • ability to view photos metadata (the current ‘Info’ screen is not nearly complete)
  • ability to view photos on a map placed according to their gps data
  • this would be amazing and if none of my others feature requests came to light I could get by with just this. many other photo viewers, like Picasa do this already and frankly with more and more cameras using built in gps I don’t think you can consider Plex a capable photo gallery without this feature.

I agree that additional photo features are need to enable Plex as the photo server of choice.

I am missing the GPS info also. from what I can see that information is not copied from the photo file and into Plex.

I tried using the upload from my phone also. the upload works fine but I would like some recommendations on how to best edit and move photos since it is working as a “backup” of photos but I don’t believe that this should be the prime reason for using photo upload. I would like to select the photos that should be displayed and maybe use a tool to improve them. Not sue how this would work with the approach currently chosen for Plex photo.

In order for this to be useful I would have to allow all my friends that have access to the server also to use the upload. Is it ok with just the app or do they need Plex pass or not? Is it sufficient with only the server owner to have Plex pass.

Allowing all the users to comment on photos would also be interesting but once again I am not sure of the future strategy of Plex photo. Maybe I am asking about things that should not be there.

All this is of course things that exists in other photo servers.

I know that the Plex team is doing a lot of good work in many areas so I guess my question is really - what should I expect from Plex photo in the near future?
