Issue in both Plex for Mac and Web interface.
First noticed tonight when doing the mandatory delete + create of Plex DVR to migrate the guide. No idea if the problem was present before that.
- After doing the delete + create for DVR, found I couldn’t remove any of my previously scheduled recordings.
- Clicking on any existing recording would give a “There was an unexpected error” error message.
- Was able to delete all preexisting scheduled recordings via mobile app.
- Also couldn’t add recordings in web / Mac app without the same error.
- Was able to create new scheduled recordings via mobile app.
With old entries deleted and 2 new show recordings created, started clicking around to determine root of problem.
- Noticed a sidebar entry that looked like a library entry with a “?” icon and no label. No idea what it is.
- Went to Settings > Manage > Libraries, and got the same “There was an unexpected error” error message as before. Unfortunately, you can’t actually do that kind of management via the mobile apps (which frankly is annoying), so I can’t use the same workaround there.
- I can pin and unpin the blank “?” source freely.
Clearly there’s something wonky with my server’s sources/libraries, but I don’t know when/why it started and can’t seem to use normal means to edit.
- Tried reverting to previous versions of the database.
- Problem was unchanged.
- Restored most current database.
Other regular things I’ve already done:
- Optimize DB
- Clean Bundles
- SQL DB repair
- Countless server restarts & whole system reboots at any and every step in every process you can imagine
The DVR delete + create and an OS upgrade to macOS Big Sur were both done in the last couple of weeks but I genuinely have no idea if this problem is new or predates these changes. I haven’t done any library management or server interface stuff in weeks and only did now because I needed to re-make a recording schedule for the DVR guide transition.
I’ve been a Plex user and lifetime subscriber since 2014. I’ve had multiple servers, migrated across OSes multiple times successfully, and troubleshot all kinds of things across systems—all without needing to post to ask a question. This Plex server installation has been running stable on this specific computer for quite a while now. I’m very comfortable on the command line, can generally translate knowledge across all major OSes, and am perfectly willing to tinker with databases directly if it comes to it. I just don’t know where else to look.
