In the devices list, I can find my own computer

Hello!

Something strange happened to me. And maybe is my fault.

In the devices list, I can find my own computer. The one in which i have my movies. In the ‘Help’ page of plex, they said that all I have to do is sing up in the device that doesnt show in the list, and it will appear. But what happens when is the actual computer (which also is the server) the one that is missing?

The truth is that I deleted it because the menú of my films whas stuck, so I decided to 'start from the beginin, reinstaling everything. But now I can find my computer in the list. I have singed in and out several times, and also restart my computer.

Any help will be welcome!

Simply reinstalling the server app won’t give you a “new” server. Unless you delete certain information from the Windows registry as well as the server’s data directory, Plex will pick things up where you left.

To do a full uninstall / start from scratch, you need to follow this procedure:
https://support.plex.tv/articles/201198426-restart-plex-media-server-setup-from-scratch/

Deleting a server record from the list of authorized devices is similar to signing that device out. So it’s still there but no longer associated to your account (“claimed”). You can still access it locally. Keep in mind the list of authorized devices doesn’t only list your server record but every client app you’ve used to sign into your account… this includes the Plex Web app or a desktop player you’ve used from that very PC.

I have followed those steps and still nothing. Maybe I didn’t write my question properly. (I said can, when I meant can’t). That’s the key. I can’t find my computer in the devices list. And I have no clue of how add my folder of movies back in.

In the procedure that you have shared… where is really the folder that I need to delete in windows? In the program files? I dont understand the %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server

I have delete it (in the program files) and reinstall the server, and still nothing. I know that I am connected, that I have an account, and the Plex Media Server installed, but I cant have access to my folder full of movies.

Sorry about my english and if it something that I cant express correctly.

Thanks again!

If your server isn’t showing up and you cannot access existing / add new media, you need to reclaim that server. To do that…

  1. Open the web app locally from within the same network/subnet

    • if you’re on the same machine… open http://127.0.0.1:32400/web in your browser
    • if you’re on a different machine in the the same network… open http://[PMS IP address]:32400/web in your browser
    • if you’re on a machine in a different network, you’ll need to establish a “local” connection, e.g. using a SSH tunnel or access the server through a remote desktop session
  2. Go to Settings > [Server Name] > General

  3. Click the Sign In button on that settings page (next to the “This server is unclaimed…” message).

IF you want to start over and get rid of an existing server:
You can actually enter the path including the variable right in the address bar of Windows Explorer. %LOCALAPPDATA% is a variable of Windows that will usually point to C:\Users<your user name>\AppData\Local` – that folder is hidden by default, so it might not show right away.

Fixed by removing the folder in the appdata (which in fact, was hidden) and re installing the server… Only a few intuitive steps more. My only concern now is that all the plots and info about movies are in english, even if the settings are set in spanish. In fact, the configuration pannels are in spanish, but not the information about films.

Any help with that?

Thanks a lot for solvin the main issue! I imagine this other thing is a piece of cake!

Looks like you set the app language to Spanish but not the metadata language for that library.

  1. App / UI language: Settings > Plex Web > General > Language
  2. Library default metadata language: > Manage Library > Edit...General > Language
  3. Overriding the metadata language for a specific item: :pencil2: > Advanced > Metadata language

If you change the metadata language (#2+3), you’ll subsequently need to refresh the library metadata for that change to take effect. Otherwise it’ll only apply to future additions to your library.

Thanks a lot, two problems solved. Muchas gracias!
