Server not listed in Authorized Devices

I have a Ubuntu box 16.04.7 LTS running plex media server. I have been a plex user for a few years now and never have any issues. I got an email about a login that was not me, so I changed my password. After that, none of my media showed up, I had the yellow ! showing on all of my media as well as my server. I was connecting on a windows 10 box on the same LAN as the server. I started a putty session and logged into my server. I had 54 packages that needed updated and plex was also 1 version behind. I updated the ubuntu packages and the plex server to the latest version and restared the box.

I still can’t see any of my library and the plex media server is not even listed anymore. It’s not listed in the main menu like it normally is and is not in the “Authorized devices” list either.

Please Help, I don’t know what is wrong.

Can you

  1. Restart plex,
  2. Let it run for 2 minutes – not doing anything.
  3. Stop Plex.
  4. Navigate (shell) to the Logs directory (/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Logs)
  5. Make a tar.gz or ZIP of everything there.
  6. Attach it here for me to review.

Thank you for responding. I just could not leave it alone, 20+ year computer programmer/Network Engineer in me.

I tried all the things that I could find online when people were having similar issues and none of them helped. I looked at the log files (before you responded) and saw issues that I was not sure how to resolve.

I ended up getting to to work again by doing the following.

I stopped Plex from running and made a copy of the preferences file:

/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Preferences.xml

Then I deleted the Preferences file and started plex back up.

This time when I went to the web browser and logged in it ran me through the “lets setup your server” prompt, I filled in the friendly name and all the other items exactly as it was before. Once complete I was back in business. It kept all of my current library and play order right down to were I was in the last movie I was watching.

I don’t know if this was the correct thing to to…but I was getting frustrated and was about ready to nuke the whole thing and start over.

Thanks again for lending a hand.
