Inability to change volume while casting on Android?

I still have the issue on a Pixel 2XL, so it doesn’t seem like a device specific problem.

No, I tested on iPhones as well, it’s with both Android and iOS.

This thread will be 1 year old and no one seem to care. Well, I thought the Chromecast community would be bigger, or they just don’t care.

At this point I’m hoping my not-so-smart TV gets broken so I will buy a smart one with Plex in it, apparently if you are casting directly to a TV (not Chromecast), it works. At least with the smart one I got here.

Haha I was thinking the same… Wel I just bought a brand new smart tv, I connected it to my DD/DTS 5.1 audio amplifier, which is old but still works brilliant. But only one little bummer: when you passtrough a 5.1 audio stream trough an optical fiber (which sounds fantastic). You cannot control the volume trough the tv remote, you have to use the the seperate remote of the amplifier. When you play a movie trough the plex app with a chromecast, you can use google home to control the volume. But still not trough the volume buttons of your phone :frowning:

So again a smart-tv does not solute the problem

Interesting, that’s what I thought. The problem is with Plex + Chromecast itself. Youtube, Netflix, Amazon, you name it, works well with Chromecast, but Plex won’t.

At least if you have a Smart TV you don’t need a Chromecast and can use the inbuilt app from the TV.

It’s really sad that it won’t get fixed. Well, C’est la Vie, I guess.

Okay boys while not ideal I found a way how to make it work. Disable HDMI pass through

If you have pass through enabled then the receiver or whatever, controls volume as it is what is decoding it.
