Index Folders Within TV Shows Library Folder

In the windows file system setup, is there no way to store the series folders in A-D, E-G, etc., folders under the master TV Show directory? I have about 300 TV series, and having one folder with 300 subfolders is not the greatest way to do things. Index subfolders work fine in the Movies library.

When I try, it seems to think A-D is a series, and the subfolders are seasons.

I then tried to use A-D, etc., as library folders in the app itself, but it would mean having multiple TV show libraries in the app client, which isn’t ideal either. Is there no way to get around putting all our TV shows in one enormous pool of folders?

Interesting thought — Good way of breaking them up.

Would be nice to see how PLEX answers this. Perhaps a TAG or something in the folder or a specific ā€œsortingā€ naming scheme for the folder.

I was thinking of doing something like this for my music - over 400 CDs. Was looking at either "alpha’ sub-folder or ā€˜genre’ sub-folders…but some of CDs are multi-genre.

Edit your TV library and then go to Add Folders. Add each alpha subfolder to the library. You will have multiple folders within the library and should accomplish what you want. No need for multiple TV libraries.

BTW: I have 435 TV series, all folder just under the main TV Shows folder with no issue.

It’s not a big problem now, but I am just thinking down the road when I have 1000 or more series. It will eventually be a little unwieldy to scroll through.

I have 0-9 and each letter of the alphabet for my movies and it works well. I don’t want to have 27 TV Shows libraries in my app.

I wouldn’t think it would be terribly difficult for them to allow us to have directory index folders to organize TV Shows the same as we can for movies, so long as the names of the index folders don’t match a tv show somewhere. If that’s the issue, we could have a naming convention for the folders.

Again, as I mentioned in my first reply, edit your TV shows Library and from the Add Folders section, add your multiple folders. A library can have multiple different folders as the source. There is no need to have multiple libraries to accomplish what you are asking.

What you want to do should already be able to be accomplished with how Plex currently works.

Woah! Awesome! Thanks very much! Apologies for misunderstanding your first post.

Actually, I should swallow my pride and more carefully describe my silliness for whomever might make the same mistake in the future. I had tried what was suggested, even before I came here, and then double checked afterward, and A-D etc, were still being listed as TV shows.

My mistake was I had simply added the A-D, etc., index folders to the TV Shows library, and had forgotten to remove the original Television folder as a whole. It was scanning the sub-folders correctly, but was also scanning the master folder with the sub-directories and listing them as TV shows too.

Once I removed the main Television folder from the TV Show library, it worked fine. Again, sorry for misunderstanding.
