Hi there , i have 3 pc’s in the home all on a wired connections . Only the one pc with the server on it shows a Nearby connection. The other 2 show indirect! , which greatly degrades the quality. How do i change some settings so they are also nearby? Thankyou so much in advance… Dixski
Do they have firewalls enabled possibly blocking ports maybe?
Go into the Network and Internet settings
Choose ethernet
Double click on your network name
Make sure it’s set to private, not public

Thankyou for the reply , firewall is enabled but plex media server and plex DLNA are on the allowed list.
They are all private , i seem to be noticing that the option to fall back to insecure connections is no longer a thing. Both machines not hosting the server are now saying “unreachable”… !
restarted server , cleared browsing history now the 2 machines on the home network are indirect again.

Ive no idea , i cleared all the browser history from the web apps on both p.c’s now they are both indirect again.
I use powerline adapters to connect them to the network to the router, dont hink that would make any difference.
I think he means there is a " Why Isn’t It Working?" section in that article he linked that you should read
Surely if it was the firewall , they would not connect at all . The server is set to secure connections preferred , smart tv’s in the home and away from the home can connect fine to my server.

These can make a difference. There are some which create a different subnet and/or perform network address translation (NAT).
Thats interesting , i have a wireless adapter, i will attach that to the usb and disable the ethernet connection later on one of the p.c’s and will post back later. Thankyou

The following relates to the machine hosting the server. When i open plex using the icon on the taskbar the server shows Nearby, but when i open it via the plex.tv link it shows indirect, hope that is clear (and this is on the machine that hosts the server)
that is opening the browser to 127.0.0.1:32400/web which is itself
app.plex.tv requires a secure connection and checks it before trying to connect, if it cannot then it is one of the reasons it will try plex relay which is indirect.
the link @OttoKerner posted earlier has some common issues why it may not like DNSrebinding

I guess the next step is to see if my router has rebinding or my isp uses it then?
I would first just try to change DNS like the article mentions
