Plex cannot make direct link on home LAN

I am having trouble accessing a direct link from any of my devices (android phones, android tv, Chrome browser (both mac and windows)) on my home network. Every-time I connect to the server it is ‘indirect’ both when at home on the same network and when not on the same network.

I am not fussed about having a direct link when not at home but need a direct link to my server when at home.

My router doesn’t have any options to enable/disable client isolation, in fact it doesn’t have anything to do with it in the settings

EDIT: I found it under the millions of settings - AP isolate is disabled, always has been

I have already tried steps 1&2, but my router doesnt have the function to change DNS server without setting a whole new static ip (which i tried, didnt end well) so is there any other ways to do it?

Btw i only need direct connect to work at home, not remote

Thanks for the tip anyway

Try to disable Secure Connections. (Settings - Server - Network)

Afterwards restart Plex Server first and after a few minutes the clients as well.

Disclaimer: doing so will also disable indirect connections to the outside. If your server is not reachable directly from the outside, it won’t be reachable at all.

Anyway, it is worth a try, to get a hint about the source of your trouble.

Ok, si ive turned off secure connection, which in doing to turned off remote access. Now all i get is server offline, apart from when i access the server from the machine its hosted on (always have been able to)

Any thoughts? Ive done abit of research, and there is something called DNS Rebinding???

That is what I already linked above. Changing the options in your router should ideally solve that.
If your router doesn’t have preferences for ‘DNS rebinding protection’, it either means

  1. it has no such protection
  2. it cannot be configured.

1 is better for Plex use

2 is unfortunate, because it would mean you could never use secure connections.

Are you running plex server in a virtual machine?

No, I am not using PMS in a VM.

I have had the idea, so I am going to set up another router, a Apple extender. My plan is to connect the devices (tv & server) and change the DNS on the apple router. Will this work?

EDIT: Didn’t work

I don’t know this device. It sounds as if this is not a router, but an Access Point.

I cannot tell you that.

The only thing you can do is testing different approaches.

Well, ive totally given up on trying to make this work, i feel that ive seen every plex article there is and its just wasting my time. I cant get passed indirect connection, and that just doesnt suit.

Probably shouldnt ask on here but has anyone got any ideas for apps/work arounds that just work??? All i need is to play movies from multiple devices without moving hard drives and usb’s around.

Thanks for the help
