Individual Seasons/Episodes Showing up in "Recently Added TV"

No matter what I try I cannot seem to get rid of individual episodes or seasons from the “Recently Added TV” section. Could not find any posts addressing this, only duplicates showing up, if someone has already found a solution, I’d love to know how. Thanks. Below is a screenshot of my server and the listings that shouldn’t (i think) show up.

Have you looked at advanced section of Library settings?

It depends on whether those episodes were added within a certain time frame.
If you added several episodes within e.g. 12 hours, they will appear as ‘Season’ or even ‘Show’ (if the files cover several seasons)
If you added one episode alone, then this episode will appear as a single item.

It’s buggy - it’s been buggy - it continues to be buggy:

^^ one of many feature requests to make it non-buggy - ignored - as usual.

Juice, you’re starting to sound like a broken record, if you remember those.

It is working as designed.

That’s the problem…

This problem doesn’t show up if you add TV episodes regularly and from different shows. I suspect the Plex guys do that, and therefore do not see the problem and cannot relate to it. Or consider it very, very low on the priority list.

I posted here requesting a fix:

but it gathers very little attention from anyone.

I’ll mention it again, not being afraid of sounding like a broken record. PlexPy, a monitoring app for Plex, groups the episodes from seasons together in the Recently Added section, regardless if they are added 2 days or 20 days apart. I’m pretty sure that PlexPy gets its info from the server the same way, but displays it much better and consistently. It even uses the season posters instead of the generic “show” poster if you only add one episode.

I was not expecting one person to answer but four of you did, to my surprise. Many thanks for the replies.

And since I absolutely HATE when people just say “nvm fixed” with no other content on a forum post about a problem, here’s what I did:

  1. Cut the folders of the offending shows
  2. Pasted them into a folder that is not scanned or utilized by my Plex server
  3. Updated my libraries, removing the shows that had been moved from the Dashboard and the server as a whole
  4. Cut and Pasted them back into the folder they previously were in
  5. Re-updated my libraries

It’s a fairly crude way of doing it, but this seemed to fix the issue on the Dashboard.

Metadata and images have not finished re-downloading but the problem is fixed.

Hope this helps someone with the same issue in the future.

So , adding titles as you gain them show in dashboard as separate episode titles. But if you add a whole or part Season without adding more Episodes it will display as a single Show of a number of Seasons.

This is a error in PLEX UI design. Therefore “Recent” is Episode sensitive the lower denominator, it should display as a show, sub menu New episodes. Everyone thoughts.

Not sure if it’s an error, first because I don’t work on it, but mainly because if you set up Plex with DVR functions, which I assume a decent amount people who use Plex that way (unlike myself), it will show all the latest episodes of all the shows one watches.
But all I do know is, if you’re adding entire shows at once, it looks like it’s a better idea to rip and name the files outside of the folders shared with Plex and then move them there.

I wish Plex would add an option to combine the items in “recently added TV”… it is SO annoying with the Live TV/DVR functionality, there are dozens of listings for Jeopardy/Late Night TV and it completely dilutes the section.

There only needs to be one listing/poster for each show, and if it has a new episode added to it, just push that listing to the front of the queue, don’t have any duplicates. Yes, I would need to then hit “play show” after selecting it from the menu, also not really a problem because Plex just plays the next unwatched episode. It just makes more sense from a design and usability perspective.

Do you know if it is 12 hours? It would be great if that value was user definable.

Hey leelynds - I tried installing Tautulli (new name for PlexPy) and I still get episodes appearing outside the season group (they also appear in the group so I know the tagging / structures are fine) - is there something you have to enable in Tautulli to get it to only group - having episodes outside of the group make no sense to me

Thank you very much!! @luigi0330

I fixed the problem. Go to Settings > Manage > Libraries > TV Shows > Edit > Advanced.

Under the dropdown next to Seasons, choose “Hide”. This groups the seasons as one show.

You do have to “Refresh all metadata” for your TV shows afterwards, but that’s it.
