Info from theTVDB agent is not correct

Server Version#: 1.15.3.876
Player Version#: Versie 3.95.1

I’ve got Season 8 Episode 1 of Game of Thrones and it is matched with theTVDB agent.

On theTVDB website (https://www.thetvdb.com/series/game-of-thrones/episodes/7117386) the episode is called “Winterfell” and it has a short episode summary starting with “Arriving at Winterfell…”.

However, the episode name in plex is “King’s Landing” and the summary starts with “The Great War…”. Furthermore Season 8 has 2 posters on theTVDB but in plex I only see one poster I can select (The two left ones are exactly the same and were the only ones I could select, the one on the right currently selected is indeed from theTVBD but I added that one myself before writing this).

The info is not the same as the info from theTVDB and it even stays the same after refreshing metadata for the series or the episode.

I know I can change it manually, but that shouldnt be neccesary as the correct information is available at theTVDB and it should just automatically use that info.

Is your file an mp4 / m4v container?
Have you checked it for embedded meta tags?
By default, those embedded meta tags are preferred by Plex.

If you don’t want that, go to

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB

In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.
Repeat the same under

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase

Its an mkv container.

Haven’t checked for embedded meta tags (Not sure how I can check those on Ubuntu with the command line), but I have ‘Local Media Assets’ all the way at the bottom and unticked everywhere because I have had issues with those before.

And it doesn’t explain the season poster

Are you sure about that?
Inspect the Plex XML info of the episode. The key guid should read like guid="com.plexapp.agents.thetvdb:....

Because the episode description “The Great War…”. was once the description at TheMovieDatabase until someone edited it.
So either your tv show is matched to TheMovieDatabase or the episode description was edited on TheTVDB as well, after your Plex server fetched it.

Meta data is cached locally. If you urgently need access to the absolute latest metadata, you need to clear this local cache:
https://support.plex.tv/articles/202967376-clearing-plugin-channel-agent-http-caches/

I checked in the Plex XML Info and it is matched with theTVDB.

It might be the case that it was matched with TheMovieDatabase before and I changed it to theTVDB, but I am not sure about that.

If the metadata is cached locally and it doesn’t update when I do a “Refresh Metadata” what is the point of “Refresh Metadata” then? I thought it would update the metadata to whatever it is on the agent at that point in time.

There was a change in PMS 1.15.4 for exactly this type of situation

So this wil probably be fixed in the next PMS update?

Great!

Problem has been fixed with the latest PMS update (1.15.4.993)
