Noticed a problem when adding an episode of Antiques Roadshow onto my server tonight.
I have Antiques Roads matched to TVDB by using this name “ntiques Roadshow (1997) {tvdb-75117}” and have episode ordering set to “The TVDB (Aired)”. I often will uploaded the OTA recordings to my laptop and convert them to mp4 files to save space. When I download the mp4 file to the Antiques Roadshow dir, it should grab the metadata from TVDB.
I usually wait a week to give the TVDB time to collect the metadata. Tonight (10/07), downloaded S28E19 to my server. When Plex did a scan, it saw the file but retrieved no meta data. Just listed it as Episode 19. I looked at TVDB and they have at least most of the metadata. The episode title is correct but the show synopsis is missing.
Then I had an idea, I checked TMDB. At least as of tonight, the last episode they have listed it S28E18. Since they have have no information for S28E19, it seems like Plex is matching that episode to TMDB dispite me telling Plex to match to TVDB.
As I was preparing to collect server logs, I notice there was newer version of PMS, downloaded it, stopped PMS, updated the rpm, started PMS. Tried re-adding S28E19 but the same result. I’ve collect the server logs. The file as added around 12:20 am on 10/08. Plex Media Server Logs_2024-10-08_00-34-08.zip (3.7 MB)
With the Plex TV Series agent, you can set a preferred source for the episode order — not pick that metadata is taken only from that source. Plex will use metadata from a combination of sources. Most information will indeed be collected from TMDb.
I get the hint stuff for identifying a show, but it used to work to get the metadata. Maybe since they removed the legacy agents, this no longer works. Plex series agent was touted as the best of both worlds but it would seem to the worst of either world now. As I said before, TMDB PBS support is pathetic. A couple of examples:
