I keep my Movies library sorted by Release Date. But Inline Collections apparently only appear when sorted by Title.
I can understand the difficulty, since movies within a collection will have various release dates, but the current behavior isn’t very useful. I also don’t appreciate Plex changing my Sort order when I create a Collection, either.
You should establish a convention of, say, Collections appear according to the release date of the first item in the collection. In any case, when I set my Library to “Hide items which are in collections,” I expect that to remain true regardless of Sort method.
There are filed issues against the handling of alphabetical and release date. Plex Web is currently not handling it very well. Neither when altering the whole library sorting or going to advanced setting on a single collection and chosing to sort it by alphabetical (for the preplay screen). This will be sorted going forward in upcoming releases of Plex Web. No more details than that to give I’m afraid.
I’ve been working with the inline collections. I just rebuilt my PMS after a Christmas upgrade. The added collections feature has been a long awaited and needed feature to help bring order to my library. It has been something I greatly missed since moving from xbmc. I love customizing art and posters.
Please hurry up with the development on this! My library currently has been freshly built to fit the new inline collection thumbprint which is unusable till new updates are released. There is little app support outside the main server or the web app. Unfortunately, I don’t watch my media on the web app. I’m waiting with great anticipation for the app update for my TV and devices.
It will be rolling out to the other clients as new builds are released going forward. Can’t say much more than that but Plex is dedicated to this very awesome feature.
