Installed Plex Server in Ubuntu and can reach the portal using its IP address but never see a server to claim

Server Version#: PlexMediaServer-1.23.1.4528-c0513eb4c
Player Version#: Web Portal

I have hit a snag and not really sure where to start looking. I put in the IP address of the Linux box that I installed PMS on along with :32400/web and it comes up and I can see the existing plex server running on my NAS and I can navigate through the web portal but there is no server listed to claim. I followed the guide here and removed the server then installed it again and the same thing. Working-reachable portal … no server to claim

Are you on the same network / subnet as the Linux machine?
If it’s e.g. a hosted machine you might need to establish a local connection first (e.g. using a SSH tunnel).

It is on the same network. This is the weird part about it. I can type in XXX.XXX.208.2:32400/web/index.html#!/ and it logs into it and I can go to the local plex portal but there is no server to claim. I can see my other plex server when I look in authorized devices. I just do not see this server or an unclaimed server anywhere.

Is this a plain/new install or did you copy/migrate some of the configuration from an existing server? If so, the new machine might be using the same identifier as the old one – causing Plex to ignore it because “that” machine is already connected. Another cause for such behavior could be if you had already linked that new server to a different Plex account.

I think that might be what it is. I had reinstalled but I had done a full removal, removed the folder and removed the user. It seems that it thinks the IP is still being used for it but I cannot find where that would be. There is no linux devices under connected. I even removed it and tried deploying it as a docker and got the same thing.

You just lost me.
If you removed the entire server data directory, there’ll be no old configuration left and your server will start from scratch. Or did you simply remove the server from the list of authorized devices? – that’ll do nothing but sign it out from your account.

Let’s take this one step at a time.
How exactly did you originally install that server on your linux machine?

I did the uninstall command from the linux server it was running on.

Uninstall Plex Media Server | Plex Support

I did not copy any data over. I downloaded plexmediaserver_1.23.1.4528-c0513eb4c_amd64.deb from the plex website and installed it. It completed without error and said installation complete.

I navigate the XXX.XXX.208.2 and the login page came up. It told me that it was on the 208.2 page and not recognized and that I need to login. I did and it navigates to the plex page running on the 208.2 address. I can see my other plex server just cannot find any indication of the one I am running the page off of.

Thanks for your help walking through this. I will check on this later. Time to go take my god daughter to breakfast!
