Internet continues to drop out when running PMS on macOS Catalina

Server Version#: 1.18.7.2434
Player Version#: 4.20.2

Here goes. I’ve been using a Mac to run PMS for about 5 years with wonderful success. Within the last 7-10 days I’ve been having issues with my internet connection dropping out every few minutes due to PMS. Long story short, I’ve wiped out my Mac and did a clean install of Catalina, and manually installed my essential apps. All was perfectly fine until once again I installed PMS and the Internet issues began again. I’ve since reset my router to factory settings as well to no avail.

Needless to say I am absolutely losing my mind. I feel like I’ve gone down every avenue I can. There is nothing extra running, fresh OS installed, factory settings on the router. I am not finding any other users with this issue.

Additionally, every other computer or device in the house has no connectivity issues. It’s just the Mac running PMS.

I would be overly grateful to any suggestions as I can’t live without the internet nor Plex.

Thank you in advance.

This must be a worry, I have Catalina running faultless with my use case.

Can you post you router type, ISP provider?

There has been an update today please apply.

When trying to open plex can you not use the Plex menu (open plex) and do the following.

Using a non default Browser like Chrome, create a bookmark with the following address. Open Plex this way.

Plex Media Server Logs_2020-02-20_08-28-18.zip (9.5 MB)

Logs have been uploaded. Router type is a Quantum Gateway - ISP is Verizon.

I actually had this all up and running last night for about 30 minutes. This morning, I’m back to square one once again.

Thank you

Might be worth checking the logs if you can. I found that when a Metadata Refresh is run, the agents go like crazy through network ports. Try to roll back, latest stable is not stable at all (Plex Media Server). Plex Media Server update 1.18.7.2438 hanging

For what it’s worth, I’m having this similar issue, only difference is that I’m on PC Win7 and my other devices will have connectivity issues when I’m trying to scan my libraries on PMS. And it’ll continue even after closing PMS, requiring a router restart.

Needless to say, I feel your pain.

Thanks for all of the responses. I wanted to follow up in case anyone else comes across this issue. I have since resolved the problem and have everything running flawlessly.

I ended up not only uninstalling PMS (documented method) but I also made sure to remove anything else that had Plex in the file name. I then rebooted and downloaded a fresh copy. When I installed again, I made sure to give the server a different name than the previous one so it was very clear to me during setup. Sure enough, my old server was still there. In the end, I believe that Plex was continuously trying to access two servers, even though only one server was in my account.

That’s the first thing I would look into if you run into this issue. It was incredibly frustrating. I’m still dealing with the repercussions of a fresh OS install and router reboot (you forget how many small things in your house run on wifi).

Anyway, thanks again.

Cheers!
