I currently run a dedicated server (hosted and accessed via Internet) on which Plex Media Server is installed, along with all my movies, show & photos.
I want to modernize my multimedia installation by setting up a Nvidia Shield TV Pro.
I know i can install Plex Media client & server on it. What i’d like to know is can i add as a remote storage (over samba or else) my remote server to the Plex Media Server i’d install on the Nvidia Shield.
The thing is, i want no transcoding to be done on the remote server, it’s just not strong enough (any x265 i try to play has to buffer 1-2min for a few seconds of video). I want the transcoding (if needed) to be done on the Nvidia Shield.
So i suppose, i need either a way to tell the Nvidia Shield to do the transcoding while the Plex media client is installed on it (may be simpler as i wouldn’t need to create any shares), or install the Plex media server on the Nvidia Shield and access my remote server as a distant storage.
