This client version is causing my phone to run hot and draining the battery fast.
I am watching direct play mkv h264 eac3 content that should barely use any resources.
I did restart my phone but did not wipe the app.
I did recently start using the Windows x64 server build, but not sure why that would affect the client playback.

I’m having the same issue. It’s increased in severity over the last several days.
TestFlight 8.7.1
Same issue, also running the latest Testflight version.
Same here. iOS app version 8.7
Running hot and ridiculously high battery drain playing H265 content

Same here with the regular, off-the-shelf version 8.7.1 on an iPhone 11 and Plex Server 1.28.0.5999 on a Synology. It gets very hot and discharges faster than my computer can charge it when playing video.

Same thing here, but don’t even have to play anything, simply leaving the app open for me causes it to heat the phone up a ton…
Add one more “me too”. iPhone 12 Pro Max, Plex 8.7.2. The phone is getting so hot the screen is dimming almost all the way down.

8.7.2, iPhone 12:
me too since about 2 weeks. Reinstall doesn’t work. It gets hot
I can make it stop by going to airplane mode and then shutting the phone down and turning it back on. If I leave it in airplane mode after it comes back on I can prevent the heat issue and battery drain.
Next I’ll try to switch to low power mode to see if that makes it go away.
It’s something to do with data access though. Trying to use the radios a little much.
I would add too that I can reproduce this with downloaded movies or streaming.
Switching to low power mode does seem to reliably resolve it. That’s just a temporary workaround though. This needs to be properly resolved.

Yes and even if I play a mp4 h264/aac with low Bitrate it gets hot. Some sort of video that shouldn’t stress a iPhone 12.
Im sure they fix it with the next update. It’s sure just a very small mistake

Same battery drain here. iPad Pro 12”, iOS 15.6.
Just updated to Plex 8.7.3 - let’s hope they fixed the battery drain.
Tested the App Store version of 8.7.3 by streaming from my server and my phone did not get hot! Thank you, Plex!
Fix working for me as well.
Is anyone else getting this issue again?
Using iPadOS 15.7 and Plex 8.8 seems to be causing overheating and battery drain like before.
