Got my first iPad, discovered that I can use a external display via USB C or a “Dock” that has HDMI to display the ipad onto a tv/monitor. When i do so, it mirrors the iPad display.
When i try to play any local video in Plex, the external display goes to black, still has signal (does not go to sleep), just no image.
The Plex app freezes and the audio plays.
The seek bar is frozen at 1sec, but the pause and skip ff.rr etc buttons work, and i can press the x in the upper right, that after several seconds does stop playback and back out (most of the time)
Does not matter if the vid is h264/265 or 1080/4K.
The part of Plex that streams trailers displays on external display fine.
I have gotten a pop up about Plex crash once before and submit report when i try to open it back up.
Playback works perfect with Infuse app, same source files, connected to the Plex server.
Other video players also work fine.
Streaming apps also have no issue.
Only Plex has issues.
Anyone have this issue?
Plex plays fine with no issues on the iPad with no external display connected.
iPad Mini 6th gen
iPad OS 16 beta 3 (it did this on 15.6 though)
Plex server 1.28.1.6041
App version: 8.7.2
I have tried both release and beta/testflight versions of Plex app and makes no difference.
EDIT: Ok, this is weird. So, some SD h.264 vids play fine, but not a single HD vid. On some HD vids, the external display show the first frame of the video then is frozen on that image. audio plays fine.
Also, if i lock/turn off the ipad display while Plex is in this state, the screen will not turn back on or respond by pressing the power/touch id button. Only once the vid is over, does the external display go black and it respond. Or, i disconnect the usb c from the tablet.
Playback info says Direct Play player MPV.
