Its been a bug for years, a simple bugs that you, plex team haven’t fix it. Playback on ipad only plays at converted 480 regardless the settings is set or configured. Please fix, its not a rocket science and its been there for years as far as im aware. Most of us don’t care about new shows or movies, we just want a service to play our media. And please add ebook
Whilst I have quite a few issues with Plex on my iPad, this isn’t one of them, I’ve never experienced this before.
I would suspect the issue here might be configuration of streaming speeds and Plex possibly not understanding if you are on a local network?
Does this issue only happen when you are not on your local plex network (ie not at home)?
Try changing this setting to see if it helps:
On your iPad
In Plex, open settings (left hand navigation click the cog image at the top)
Click on quality
Try changing some of these settings to see if it changes your experience
Turning off auto adjust quality if it is on
Home streaming, turn off recommended, and set it to maximum
etc
If this doesn’t change anything:
On your Plex Server
To go settings
Remote Access
Check what the setting is for “Limit remote stream bitrate”
If this is set to a 480p or 720p bitrate, try changing to something higher
If this second thing works, and the first one doesn’t, and you are on your home network (ie directly on the same network), this means that Plex isn’t understanding your are local and is incorrectly forcing quality restrictions on your videos.
