i have always played my movies with my iphone using airplay to show it on my atv3. i only have mkv-files at 720p with the settings 8 mbps on my iphone. i think it is good quality.
yesterday i tried plexconnect for the first time and i am a little bit confused that with the setting 8 mbps the quality i much worse. how can that be?

Are you using subs and if so what type?
yes, sometimes the subs that plex downloads automaticly and sometimes .srt i download my self…
Do you use the same subs when airplaying?
yes, i tested the same movie clip on both with the same subtitle. the subtitle with plexconnect is bigger though. 100%. and it says normal on the iphone…
It is because of the transcoding.
You can try upping the transcoding quality for now but Roidy is working on a subtitle renderer for when using external subs with native files (as the PMS is probably direct streaming the files it probably applies to your case).
