I see this on a ton of my content on my 2019 Shield Pro. Seems to happen more often than not. when I get the black screen, I just change the quality to transcode and the video shows up but its super annoying
It’s not just the pro the 2017 model does it too
I also have the issue of video pausing for about 5 seconds but audio working at the start of my TV Shows.
Nvidia Shield Pro → Plex Client = video freezing for 5 seconds at start.
Nvidia Shield Pro → Kodi → Plex Plugin = Play’s fine.
Until the fix, just use Kodi and the Plex plugin.
Update.
I have this pinned down to “Last working” and “First failing” versions using the Picard (TNG) video clip.
The engineer has all this info now and the test clip (all in one lump)
For those wanting to take matters to manual mode, I’ve discovered PlexForAndroid-8.19.4.26517-f35a541c-Arm64v8aGooglePlayStdExo.apk works for me on this Shield Pro 2019.
I don’t advise remaining there but it will allow confirmation of “Last working”
Thank you Chuck!
If you side load, please let me know your results.
Sideloaded PlexForAndroid-8.19.4.26517-f35a541c-Arm64v8aGooglePlayStdExo.apk and it appears that the “pause” when I start playing most files is gone. On Shield TV 2019 pro. Thank you for looking into this!
So if version 8.19 works, would we expect one of the betas having this fix implemented? Or stay with older version of plex app?
Any news on when the update will come out to fix the problem or an estimate at least
This is going to take some time to backtrack through the software and find out what change caused it.
The engineer has everything I can give him.
- Known-good starting point
- First-fail point
- Example file which should work
He has to burn the hours to go through all the changes, line by line, and get back into the train of thought / re-reading the comments to find the logic error or case which isn’t handled now.
I don’t have an ETA yet. When I get something, you all will be the first to know.
Any news yet
no. nothing yet. I am running 8.19.4, with automatic updates disabled, pending resolution. It’s solid for me.
How do you turn off automatic updates when you are subscribed to the Beta channel?
I believe you have to turn off automatic updates in the Google Play Store itself.
Ah ok, thanks
I too am having this issue. Thought I was going insane having it transcode or something (it’s not). Hopefully by putting this reply in I will get notified of updates.
Hey just wanted to let you know too apparently that freezing thing doesn’t affect Chromecast with Android TV only the Nvidia shield 2017 that I’ve tested and the 2019 pro
They are still working on it though they haven’t it’s like put it back and just will get back to it whenever they have time right they’re working on it
No, this wasn’t shoved to the ‘back burner’.
Something changed down deep, outside Plex’s code, and this level of work requires an almost line-by-line, with live data, tracing. Tracing at this level can take a lot of man hours for something as simple as “push the button and the first frame is displayed”
Stay on 8.19.4 and you’ll be as stable as can be
Don’t mind them. They can’t even firm a coherent sentence. We appreciate all your hard work!
