Is anybody working at Plex going to fix the Nvidia shield startup freezing but audio plays and then catches up fix

Exoplayer is owned and maintained by Google — GitHub - google/ExoPlayer: An extensible media player for Android

Yes, it’s maintained by Google, but it’s bundled and shipped with the Plex app. It’s not part of Android TV itself, therefore the update to Shield Experience 9 shouldn’t change anything.

That being said, they are currently shipping the latest Exoplayer release.

also plex use a modified version of exoplayer,

For anyone else who has been having this issue even on the latest beta, installing the nightly with the new video demuxer found here fixed it entirely for me. Haven’t had time to watch a ton of content yet but I haven’t experienced any bugs so far with this version.

Yeah thanks for that but I don’t want it to be in beta I want to wait for the full release for it I don’t want to have to do any of that sideloading craft right now I just wanted to work just from an update from Plex on the Nvidia shield but thanks for the info though everything counts

The new demuxer didn’t fix this particular problem for me. I can still recreate it at will. As far as I can tell, it only happens with videos that have subtitles. I’ve reported it elsewhere for more visibility.

are you sure you’re talking about the same issue as everyone elese in this thread?
the issue being discussed has nothing to do with subtitles being on or off - unless you are saying that the new demuxer build still has the issue but only when subtitles are enabled.

if that’s the case then you should report that issue in the thread about that test build.

I can confirm the issue discussed in this thread doesn’t occur for me even with subtitles enabled. Your issue seems to be something else that’s a bit similar? Like herman_munster said, you should post about it in the test build thread.

Yeah it’s still there I mean some videos are playing without it you play it before but it’ll happen again come on please I know they’re working on it but maybe they should have two people instead of one person or more

Do you guys need more video files to fix the problem I know you guys worked with Nvidia can you guys ask and video what’s the best way to fix it I mean their machine

You’re right, I was confusing this with another, similar problem. I’ve reported it in its own thread.

To give you all a head’s up.

The team is finishing up a serious chunk of work in the player.

I’ve been testing it here. There are some problems with it but that’s to be expected with a brand new player engine interface.

The development team is very interactive with us - taking it all onboard and resolving as fast as possible.

What i can tell you is that, with this new code, what’s currently working is SOLID and a whole lot better than what was. I compare 8.19.4 side by side with the new and the new is better. When it’s fully stable, it’ll knock your socks off

Thanks for the status update. Looking forward to seeing it!

Woohoo! The video playing software will finally play videos on the first try!

I was super excited but I’m kind of scared at the same time but I hope it works I can’t wait

Can you give us a head up s when it will be released or upcoming release like I am upcoming month it’ll come out just so we know because sometimes on the Nvidia shield when new updates come out and you want to go to view updates info you can’t just see on the shield you have to go through all this hard on the web so it just be a lot easier if we knew we could get even more excited

I saw ones of the team members say that it was in 8.32, so it still could be two or three months away. That’s assuming there’s no delays.

As far as updating on your Shield. It’s a staged rollout so some people get it after a few days. I believe that’s a Google feature, so not something they can control. Follow the update thread to see it as soon as it releases. I would link it here but it makes it my comment a link on that thread.

I ran the latest nightly last night.

  1. The video playback is solid.
  2. There were some audio glitches.

Every step is a good one.

I don’t know when but there is a huge amount of progress being made here.

EDIT: I am running 8.31.0.30984

something that is very much in Plex’s control.
when you submit an update you can choose to release it to everyone immediately or do a staged update.

Plex almost always choose a staged update, as almost always every release has something that is broken (they just don’t know yet or have chosen to ignore it) so the complaints will come in a bit slower compared to releasing it to everyone straight away.

For me this only occurs if I have external subtitles enabled. If I disable the subs, I don’t get the 10 second video freeze. For me this only occurs with mp4-files.
