Is anybody working at Plex going to fix the Nvidia shield startup freezing but audio plays and then catches up fix

you don’t have the same issue as what this thread is about then.

Any info

Should just release the build already. It certainly can’t be any worse than the client already is. Why make everybody wait even longer considering Android has been nearly unusable in so many aspects for over a year.

Also make it available straight away and none of this staged rollout that takes 3 weeks to show up.

8.30.2 = public and works.
8.31.x = final QA
x.xx.x = Alpha .

oh it definitely could be.

Why make everybody wait even longer considering Android has been nearly unusable in so many aspects for over a year.

hardly “nearly unusable”. apart from the issue this thread is about (which only affects some of my content) then android tv client works almost flawlessly in playing my content (which is all i want it to be able to do).

Also make it available straight away and none of this staged rollout that takes 3 weeks to show up.

there are many valid reasons for doing a staged rollout - see my first response regarding how it couldn’t be any worse. you don’t want a bugged version pushed out to everyone immediately.

besides, nothing stopping you manually installing the new versions (be it beta or full release).

You sure about that. I’m afraid your Announcements section contradicts this.

Also saying 8.30.2 “works” is by far incorrect. I can list several issues that are certainly not working still. Although they are outside the scope of the topic in this thread. The statement is still incorrect as a whole.

What am I missing?

I’m confused about what you’re saying. I’m on this version (8.30.2) and the issue covered in this topic is still happening. You posted above that the resolution is still being worked on and is not released yet.

This is the public release section is it not? You say it’s in QA except it’s already released.

Also, these notes always say “may take a day or two before it becomes available” except it’s flat out false.

The Roku release is avail instantly… certainly not taking over 4 weeks to push out so what is the point in making things more difficult than they need to be. All this accomplishes is leaving paying customers in the dust for far longer than they need to be.

You can’t say the app “definitely could be” worse than it already is and then immediately say it’s hardly “nearly unusable” That would be a contradiction and a false one at that. The Android app on all other platforms except mobile is far worse than any other Plex app avail.

Sure I don’t want a bugged version pushed out at all yet the state of the app is horrendous. A staged rollout does not take over a month for every single version released. They are intentionally holding fixes back from paying users. The last two public Android releases aren’t even avail on Amazon for automated install. Nobody should have to side load their app every single time just to avoid a needless delay. That only serves to push customers away.

Employees saying the new muxer is rock solid over 30 days ago none the less and then them sleeping on it is gaslighting at it’s finest. Especially when the app has been in such a horrible state for over a year. Complete neglect.

they are not mutually exclusive.

the point of the thread maybe?
what does you showing a screenshot of the version you have installed then a random screenshot of something playing convey?

the messages you’ve posted recently in this thread seem a little “off the mark” which is quite unlike you.

Until PLEX realizes they need to either hire a full-time dev team or make the client open-source, it’s just going to continue to be a nightmare. PLEX started out as the BEST software to play our local media… it has turned into a 30-armed monster and none of the arms seem to know what the others are doing.
I was half-excited when a “nightly” build that focused on fixing major issues surfaced two months ago. Still waiting for a 2nd “nightly” build and literally none of my questions have been answered in the meantime. I may try it out every few months to see if they miraculously recover, but I’m moving on and not holding my breath.

I’ve been following along with this thread, and we’re currently hard at work to improve the playback experience on Android (and our other clients), and I’ve reached out to a few people privately to ask if they’re willing to work with us constructively and provide feedback in our internal Slack with in-development improvements. If others are interested in working with us and providing constructive feedback, please feel free to send me a message. :plexheart:

isn’t that what the beta sub-forum is already for?

Not for things that are still in development, which is what I had referred to

but the new muxer (which is apparently what will fix the issue this thread is about), is already in beta releases? or that’s what has been suggested by another plex employee.

I was asking about wider testing and feedback, not specifically the demuxer
