Is "Into The Dark" tvdb id matching ever going to be fixed

Is there any update regarding the issue/bug with matching the TV Series “Into The Dark”

It was brought up a while ago in one of the threads about the new TV agent.

It will not match if you use the specific TVDB id.

I am just raising this again as since updating my TV Library to use the new agent it seems it has now reverted back to unmatched and trying to match using the TVDB id of tvdb-347115 it still comes up as Ken Follet’s Journey Into the Dark Ages.

I struggle to understand why it does not match, as surely if you specify the correct TVDB id it should just get the correct item from the TVDB.

The problem is that a search based on the name brings up over 10 matches that all look very similar so there is no way of telling what the difference is between the results.

I would like to use the data that is available on the TVDB as at least then I know what I am getting.

The issue occurs because this show only exists on TheTVDB but not on TMDB.
This still hasn’t been fixed.

What you are saying is that if a TV Show you are trying to match does not exist on the TMDB you will be unable to match it using the id from theTVDB (or for that matter using the IMDB id)

So even specifiyng an id does not bypass looking up the show on the TMDB first.

And in order to match any TV Show using metadata from theTVDB, the show must exist on the TMDB

That just seems odd.

Which leads ne to another question, where are the all the duplicate results coming from when you search by the name, if it is not on the TMDB and only has 1 entry on theTVDB and 1 entry on the IMDB?

It is actually just one database. Which is fed by several sources for metadata. TMDB is used as the primary source.
Those different episode ordering options are just additional properties of the main item. So if you use the TVDB ID during matching, it will still match your item against the main list of media (which is supposed to hold all tv shows, but currently doesn’t).

Honestly, I don’t know. It could be duplicate entries coming from either source.
AFAIR, you will also see “historic” duplicates which have since been merged with the main list item.

as an aside I have just found this:

(It does not help, but might explain why it is not on TMDB as a tv show)

so it looks like the episodes are on there, but listed as separate movies :frowning:

It matched for me with the new agent. TV/Into The Dark (2018)/Season 01/Into The Dark s01e01 The Body.mpg

I had the ID in my folder name, {tvdb-347115} (as per the tips section on the Fix Match Support page) to try to get it to match to the metadata on the TVDB.

But that does not work as outlined above because the Series is not listed on the TMDB as a TV Show.

I might try renaming the folder to remove the ID and then “Plex Dance” the Show and see what happens.

It should work. It auto matched for me.

Yep, If I remove {tvdb-347115} from the folder name it does (now) indeed auto match.

So that makes no sense to me if the TMDB is used as the primary source, but the show is not on there.

It must use TVDB to some extent regardless.
