Is it better/more reliable to store DB on external drive or user accessible internal?

Plexperts: I have PMS on my 2019 NVidia Shield with a 2 GB removable external SSD drive. As I only use the SHIELD for at most a few hours a day, to reduce power consumption control it by turning on/off its power with an outlet timer. Because every now and then, this uncontrolled shutdown/startup seems to corrupt my DB I want to store the DB in an accessible location to do manual backups. Question: Is the DB more likely to be corrupted when PMS is used in this fashion if I choose to have it stored on the external drive vs in a user accessible area on the Shield’s internal drive? Or are there any other factors that suggest one is better than the other? Note: I mainly use my PMS as a DVR to timeshift the few over the air shows I watch – so DB/library size isn’t an issue.

FYI … I did see this prior post: Run Plex on NVIDIA SHIELD internal but store metadata on external harddrive

Anyone know if this is still an issue? I.e. it’s a showstopper for me if PMS doesn’t restart after the Nvidia Shield wakes from sleep if the DB is stored on the external usb drive.
