Is it possible to avoid burning subtitles when watching content on the xbox?

I don’t personally have an xbox, but I’m sharing my server with a friend who does and he doesn’t speak english all that well so he’s forced to use subtitles. Is there any way only burn image formats like on the web player? This is of course to avoid transcoding.

Well I Use DVDFab to rip.
It can burn subtitles into the video, causing PMS not to transcode just for subs.
The down side is the subs are always there.

There might be other software that can do that.

Wish Plex could find a better way to handle Subs without transcoding…

I would do this. Problem is I’ve got close to 100 films and I’m as close to a native speaker as it gets and find subtitles quite distracting. I might just make a separate library with a 4 or 5 films with subtitles burned it.

I’ll look into other software. Thanks!

VLC app on Xbox one will display soft subs natively.
