After almost 3 months into the year and several, ney, too many updates to Plex on my DS216-Play I now proclaim Plex completely fubar.
Constant issues with connecting to my Plex instance on lan connected DS216-Play. Stop process, start process. Logout, login again. Play a movie on web client ON LAN via gigabit connection, have problems. Try to sync .mp3 (iOS over LAN) and it just sits as “pending” forever…
Why the constant updates? What version should I go back to in order to have some stability?
Just for a point of info my Plex system is VERY stable. I have rarely had my server give any real problem or have any major problems regarding connectivity.
I have my issues with Plex but over the years I have used it but stability has never been one of the issues.
I generally place myself on the beta update channel so I get quite frequent updates but that has rarely been a problem. On the rare occasions where an update has had a bug that impacts me, the last was about a year or more ago, I just uninstalled that release and restored the previous one.
Over the years I have observed that most issues people have with stability are due to running Plex on a computer that has multiple other duties or even is used as a regular daily use system. Plex, like any other server system, runs best when on a system that has no other duties except those that are for direct support of Plex itself.
The other issue that causes a LOT of problems is connecting the server wirelessly. Wireless is bad for any streaming as it is subject to too many things, like interference, that makes the stream unstable. Even clients are MUCH more stable if connected wired instead of wirelessly.
Lastly you have not asked for help and posted logs and details of your setup and what exact problems you are having. The folks here are, mostly, pretty good and figuring out exactly what is wrong and suggesting fixes.
Plex itself sometimes helps pretty well but not as often as they should but many users here are very knowledgeable and helpful. But to get help you must supply complete information and many time logs are required.
For me there are many good reasons to dislike the direction Plex has taken in the last couple of years but stability is not one that I have seen at all.
