This evening, a friend of mine called me up to say her dad accidentally signed out of Plex on his Fire stick so she signed out of Plex on her Roku to walk him through getting back on.
She doesn’t remember setting up a password for Plex so she tried click on ‘Already have an account’ and ‘Manually enter email and password’ and gets dumped here:
I gave her a video call at this point and wasn’t sure what to do. She signed out of Plex on her LG Smart TV and when she went back into the Plex app, it brought up the familiar ‘plex.tv/link’ page with the 4 character code. She went to that site on her phone, entered the code and it hooked her TV back to her Plex account and she was fine. (Guessing the Plex.tv login info was cached on her phone.)
So the big question is… how/where do you find the screen that has the ‘plex.tv/link 4 digit code’ on Roku and Fire sticks or have those apps been updated to do away with that option? We clicked everything we could but didn’t find that ‘plex.tv/link code’ screen anywhere.
This is the most stupid, infuriating change. It provides absolutely no benefit and merely inconveniences the user. It’s baffling that Roku would require this.
Did it say somewhere in there that PINs cannot be used? I saw that they must support voice entry so there is that, and I see that it says that the ifPinEntry is deprecated and I imagine that’s what Plex was using but, I wonder if there is a way to still use PIN without calling that particular API that Plex could implement - and yes, I agree this is Roku’s fault, but its also become Plex’s problem (or rather our problem as users and Plex’s by extension of that)…seems like it is something that is still feasible like if Plex allowed linking using a unique ID still without needing the whole login process or Google login or whatever…I dunno, I’m not a programmer, but I’m hopeful because this sucks
