Plex on Roku sign in only allows use of Roku Account or Plex Account Email Address and Password now for some reason. Setting up a new Roku (for elderly family and I’m 5 states away). Plex Team, the Link process with 4 digit code is essential. Please bring that back. Some non-techie people /can’t/ use the remote to correctly enter complex passwords.
To test this, on my own Roku I logged out, deleted the Plex app and reinstalled the Plex app. Verified. It ONLY asked for email and password (or Roku account). No sign in with code option.
Good to know, I didn’t realize Roku forced the removal of the simple authentication method. I did some searching, but didn’t find the announcement you were referring to. Thank you so much for confirming.
So I just got hit with this as well - however when I try to login with either of the gmail addresses for which I have accounts I can’t, it just won’t connect then tells me after multiple failures there must be some issue with my IP address - which is interesting because it KNOWS that my email address has an account already. Is there some way to use a gmail account to login still? I feel like I must be doing something wrong still.
But yea, this PIN was one of those things that made the cost of the Plex Pass well worth it and I mean, Ill keep it, but this is a BIG downer since the Roku TVs are all so inexpensive (subsidized by Roku I’ve got to imagine). How crappy.
The PIN for being in a Plex home is still available.
What is being referred to in the OP is the easy login method of getting a 4 digit code when attempting to login on a STB device (like a Roku/Roku TV, Android TV, etc.) and then going to https://plex.tv/link and logging in with your account from a web browser and then entering the 4 digit code shown on the TV screen.
I just checked on a Roku I use on occasion for travelling and made sure it was on the latest Plex app and the fast user switching (where you enter a 4 digit pin to switch to a different user within your home).
It sounds like you got logged out for some reason and need to get logged back in, which could be a PITA without the option to sign-in with a code. However, once you get signed in, you should still be able to use the PIN for fast user switching.
