Is Preroll & Remote Access working with PMS 1.23.4.4805?

Hi before upgrade I just need to make sure Preroll and Remote access is working in this PMS 1.23.4.4805 release. I upgraded to PMS 1.23.4.4755 but still preroll isn’t working until we set to play at least one trailer in a Plex client. (Previously it worked when it’s 0). In PMS 1.23.4.4755 release Remote Access isn’t stable at all. Randomly it is going offline and online.

The only last known PMS version works without any issue is PMS 1.23.3.4706. So still I’m stuck with that version.

Server Version#: PMS 1.23.3.4706
Player Version#: latest
OS: Windows 10 Pro 21H1

Please reply me.

Thank you

Nope, I updated to test and it’s still not working. I rolled it back to 4706 again.

Thank you very much @KMiller8821 & @Unknown_User . I don’t know why Plex is breaking already existing features while introducing new ones. First they need to focus on how to fix the broken features before release new features. Now it’s been moth after they broke Remote Desktop & Pre-Roll. Still Plex didn’t bother to fix. It’s really frustrating  :zipper_mouth_face:

I tested preroll yesterday for the first time and it worked fine. Windows 10 server.
Version 1.23.5.4801

Thank you. I will try this new PMS release then. Hopefully it will work this time.

@AmazingRando24 I installed PMS 1.23.5.4801. But still it’s not playing any pre-roll for me. *

  • Please tell me what Plex client did you use?
  • Do you have trailers enable in the client?
  • What Windows 10 version you are using? I’m using Windows 10 Pro 21H1.

Thank you.

Using a Roku, and yes… I believe having trailers enabled is a requirement. It does not work on Rokus where I have trailers disabled. Not certain which version of W10 I have, I’ll have to double check. I suspect it’s closer to a consumer version than a pro version.

EDIT: Windows 10 Home

@AmazingRando24 Thank you very much for your quick reply. Pre-rolls are always working when you enabled it. Can you please try it with different client with trailers disabled. It used to be work like that way.

cheers.

It doesn’t work with trailers disabled on the Web interface. Beyond those two, I really don’t use any other clients. I was ironically investigating all of this yesterday as I’d like to start using one.

I got all my info here:

Based on that article, I assumed they would not work without trailers enabled, which I have discovered to be true.

@AmazingRando24 Yes you are correct. It looks like they have changed the way how pre-rolls works. Now Clients need to enable at least one movie trailer. Then only pre-roll will play after movie trailer. That doesn’t make any sense at all.

Previously by default Pre-rolls will play on every Plex clients if we set extras on PMS. If any client has change settings to play a movie trailer then trailers + pre-rolls will play.

Come on Plex. Please change it back to the way it used to be. I’m really disappointed Plex :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I was surprised to find out that it didn’t work that way.

@AmazingRando24 That how I used pre-rolls in my PMS until Plex change their policy. Clients doesn’t need to enable movie trailers to see pre-rolls. if you want to try it out please downgrade you PMS version to PMS 1.23.3.4706. Then disable movie trailers in your Roku. Your pre-rolls should play prior to movie.

Guys is prerolls working on PMS 1.23.6.4810? But I can’t see anything on changelog.

cheers

I’m on 1.23.6.4881 and still having the preroll issue. It’s quite frustrating because my friends no longer see my custom preroll animations since the trailer count on client settings is 0 by default. Prerolls should be forced regardless of the trailer settings.

I don’t think Plex will fix it. Plex needs to force us to watch their movie trailers. If we want to watch our pre-rolls, we need to set movie trailers to 1 or more in Plex clients. Then plex will play movie trailer + pre-rolls. I’m really frustrating about Plex decisions… Now only options we have is stick with old PMS version, Emby or Jellyfin. Plex is going to lose customer if they are not listening to them. I hope Plex won’t be another Blackberry :zipper_mouth_face:

Which version is the last one that was working? I’ll need to figure out how to downgrade PMS on Unraid docker.

This is the last known working version of Plex PMS 1.23.3.4706. All other releases after that version are broken

I can confirm Plex Media Server 1.24.0.4897 works fine. Plex fix the pre-rolls issue. Now you can upgrade your Plex server to latest version. Thank you PLEX :slightly_smiling_face:
