Pre-rolls stopped working all of a sudden on all clients. I tried on the shield, the web player, and my android phone. I verified no settings were changed anywhere. I can browse to the pre roll videos directly on the windows server that PMS is running on and I have tried restarting the PMS hardware/OS. Any known bugs on this? I can upload logs if needed. Thanks for any help.
As of the update 1.23.4.4775, this still has not been fixed. I had rolled back my updates to 1.23.2.4600, and they were working again. I didn’t do any special scientific method for choosing that update. I just knew it was working after the end of May when that update was run, and tried it out. Voila. I won’t be updating to any new versions until I can get a definitive answer that any of the new updates have it working.
I know of a lot of people who Plex, but aren’t using PreRolls, so that drastically drops the number of people who are affected by it. It took me a few weeks just to find the time to play around with it. In the end I was like, “This is around the time when it worked”, and picked the nearest prior update to see if it worked. It did. I will provide the obligatory “BACKUP your Plex server before doing this” just in case someone does something they aren’t supposed to or has a different setup for one reason or another, etc.
@Pittsmaster You may want to tag additional platforms in this since I’m pretty sure this is a cross-platform issue - that may give it more visibility.
Tagging a Ninja may not be a bad idea either - @OttoKerner (sorry, you were chosen at random lol)
I only care so much about this feature because it lets me advertise to users the ability to change the quality of their stream with my pre-roll - without that users settle unknowingly for the default 720p - and the other solution for streaming quality is taking…a while.
I can verify 1.23.3.4707 is the last version where pre-rolls work as intended. any version after that needs 1 cinema trailer enabled first and the pre-roll plays right after the trailer(s).
I also create Pre-Rolls to send messages like when I am planning to take Plex down for hardware upgrades, etc. Came in real handy when I had moved, and I had 2 weeks where the preroll let people know that the server would be down for a day for the move.
