On the sales page (https://www.plex.tv/features/plex-pass/), there’s a star marked at the option for Plex Pass Lifetime. The description below it reads “*Limited time only”. Are you implying that you intend to continue the sale for Plex Pass Lifetime for a limited time only, and after said time discontinue the sale of it? Or is it a mistake, that it is a remnant of the recent 20% off discount, and someone didn’t do a proper clean-up job?
Plex has always said that the option for “lifetime” may go away at any time. Of course it may not.
It may be much like the furniture store down the street where there has been a “Sale - Going out of business” sign in the window for the last 15 years. (The same sign I might add) When asked about it the owner said, “If I were not going out of business I could not stay in business.”
That’s cool, but not what I asked. What I asked is: is there an error in the sales page or not?

No. Since it is true then it is not an error. I think that page has said that for at least the last year or two.
Hmmm. I could swear I never saw it prior to the 20% off discount sale. But ok.
I think Elijah answered perfectly. It’s asterixed to show that it can be revoked at anytime to lure in poeple to think they are getting a bargain. The reality is that they probably have no intention of ceasing the lifetime pass.
It’s a marketing trick, so the answer isn’t a simple one to your black and white question.
Okay, so now we’re discussing the definition of the asterisk itself.
So you’re saying that current existing Plex Pass Lifetime members can have their lifetime status revoked? I’m quite sure that that is illegal, and Plex Inc is aware of this as well. Furthermore Plex Inc would create FUD for their product. So I really doubt that revocation is the definition of the asterisk. If Plex wants to cease supporting lifetime members, they’ll just create another version of their product, and require members to subscribe to that separately, but not giving an option for lifetime.
That said, any member of staff browsing available to clarify?
No that wasn’t what I said. If people think that a deal is only going to be available then they buy it. If they think the deal will be there forever then they will go away and think about it.
Absolutely NOT!! Plex has stated that anyone purchasing a “lifetime” Plex pass will have a Plex pass on their account as long as Plex exists. The referenced text simply means means that they may stop selling the lifetime version of the Plex pass at any time and without warning.
I fail to see how anyone could interpret it any other way but, given the latest in politics in the US and elsewhere, I guess that just about anything can have any meaning depending on who is reading/writing/saying/hearing it. The dictionary appears to be undergoing a massive rewrite and no telling where it could end up, (or down)

Not illegal at all. Companies do it all the time.
PlayOn did it at least twice. Got sued once and won.
All they need to do is change the product in a significant enough way and - voila! - it is a different product that needs a new “lifetime license”.
Your “lifetime” is still a lifetime but it no longer does anything for you. You can continue use all the products/versions and services you had up until the “change” but any new products/versions and services will require a new lifetime license purchase.
Not saying that is what Plex is planning on doing but it is a way around it.

Hi,
From the beginning, our “Lifetime” option was mentioned to be available for a limited time, it just wasn’t flagged as such on that subscription page. But, yes, it’s possible that we could discontinue the lifetime option at some point.
Thanks for your interest in Plex!
There is my answer. I knew that I never saw the asterisk before apart from the recent 20% discount sale. Glad my memory still serves me well apparently.

If we ever stopped offering “lifetime” as an option to choose when signing up, that would not affect any user who already had an existing lifetime subscription, of course. A lifetime Plex Pass subscription is valid for the life of the Plex account, regardless of whether “lifetime” continues to be offered as a choice for new subscriptions.
Thanks!
So, unlike stated earlier in the thread, Plex Inc won’t revoke your lifetime status. Which is technically very different from not migrating your lifetime status to an entire new version of the product.
I have to admit I was interested in the lifetime Plex Pass for $120 and was planning on buying fairly soon but with a price hike to $150. No thanks… I was on the fence already about $120
