Is there a way to add a sort option...?

Hello,

I thoroughly enjoy plex but still have a lot to learn.

I run Windows Plex Server on my Win 11 x 64 workstation. Web Version 4.87.2 Server Version 1.30.1.6562

I like viewing my movies in categories - self tagged.

I love that it has my movies in each collection sorted alphabetically by default.

Occasionally though I’d love to click on the more ellipsis and have it sort by by year or recently added for that category. I watch all my movies on my TV through an nVidia Shield TV. Is this possible? (doesn’t have to be the 3 dots but somehow once I’ve selected the category.

I’m sure it is obvious but I’m not finding it.

Thanks

Collections by default are sorted by release year I believe, not alphabetically.
I know the movies within my collections are sorted by release date by default as I just checked the last collection I made and that is the setting. The only thing I did for that collection was to add the 2 movies for it to the collection.

The way you change the collection sorting is the following.

  1. Hover over the collection poster and then click on the pencil (edit) icon in the bottom left corner (this can also be done from within the collection and clicking the pencil icon shown there):

  2. From the edit modal that opens, click on Advanced in the left side panel at the very bottom

  3. Finally, click the drop down next to “Collection Order” and select the sort method you want then click save

For the custom sort order, you can alternatively go into the collection and then when hovering over the movie poster, click on the 3 horizontal lines in the top center of the poster and drag it to where you want it to be. That should automatically change the sort order to custom and it should remember how you sorted it.

As of this moment in time, there is no way that I am aware of to quickly change the sort order within a collection from either the web app or the client apps in the manner you are asking about.

You can search the forum to see if a feature suggestions has been creating asking what you want. If there is one, click the vote button at the top of the thread. If there isn’t one, you can create one and be sure you actually add your vote after creating it.
