No Sort Options for Collections?

I don’t know where this really belongs, so it is here.

I noticed last night that there are no longer ANY sorting options for collections AT ALL. I use the web client to manage my server, and I use the Roku player to view content and neither has any way to change the sort order from “by Release Date.” At least, no way I have been able to find. I tried changing the sort order for non-collection things, but it doesn’t “spill over” into Collections.

I tested this again today, just after updating the Plex Server to Version 1.18.0.1846 and there is still no [detectable?] way to sort collections by anything other than release date. Can anyone explain why this functionality was removed? In earlier versions I know for certain I could at least switch between sorted by Title and by Release Date because I used that to show off some collections to my family. So why has it been taken away?

There are a few existing requests for this. Rather than splitting votes among several requests, you’d be better off adding your vote to one of those.

General question about collection sorting using the Star Wars ‘machete order’ as an example. At the minute, it’s only possible to sort collections alphabettically or by release date. Anyone know of a way of custom sorting a collection without affecting the main library sorting? This would be possible if more collection sorting options, i.e. fully customisable sorting, were added.

I’m confused? I can edit a collection and set the sort order ?

I think he means he wants to change the sort oder in the collection view on the fly I think.

Can anyone explain why this functionality was removed?

It was never removed because it was never there. when you are in the collections view the collections have other features like including tv or music in the collections on that page.

The only place you could ever sort a collection on the fly was when filtered on it in the regular library

@BigWheel it never occurred to me that there were two very different collection views. You are correct that I am remembering the “filter by collection” view. I [foolishly] assumed that the “Collections” options (where it says “Recommendations” “Library”, etc.) was just a quick access link to a specific [popular] filter.

@TeknoJunky as before, it did not occur to me that the sort order would be hidden from users in the collection’s settings. That is so unlike all other sort options that I never checked for it.

@beckfield I will go vote for the referenced message even though I have no idea what “machete order” could possibly mean. That’s why I didn’t pay much attention to it when I read it before posting.

If any Plex folks are reading, user interfaces MUST be consistent if you want your users to be able to easily use your product. This new specialized collection view has potential, but PLEASE make it work like other views.
