Is there a way to use an m3u file for live tv or tuner emulator?

Hello

I’m looking into using plex server on a raspberry pi 3 to use as a DVR.
However I would like to use an m3u file to supply the channels to record. I know there is the IPTV plugin (https://github.com/Cigaras/IPTV.bundle), but this does not allow you to record.

Is there a way to add an m3u into plex directly or something to make the m3u file emulate a tuner so it can be used with plex?

Many Thanks
Mark

There’s no direct way of using a m3u file, however you can use external programs like tvheadend and then use antennas which emulates a HDHomeRun, allowing plex to access tvheadend.

Thanks for the reply.

I have just installed TVHeadend and used tvhProxy to emulate the HDHomeRun Tuner.
Seems to have found the channels, just waiting on Plex to update the epg. Only concern now is that it has taken 3 hours to get to 18%!!!

Is it always this slow on the epg refresh?

Just came across this:

It’s an IPTV proxy for Plex Live that supports m3u files.
I’ve not tried it yet, but thought I would post it in case it helps someone else.

I’ve tried it, and it works really well. Granted there are a few bugs that Tom is working on but the basic idea works and he is releasing updates every few days.

Currently it doesn’t work very well if you have a physical tuner such as a HDHomerun but he’s working on a fix.

Be careful. Most of the good IPTV services require you provide them with the MAC address from your Android or STB Emulator before they will provide you with any of their services. This application doesn’t address this and the developers to too stupid to realize they could be much better than a kiddies app. :pensive:

Once again… stop spreading misinformation. Telly provides support for Plex users with access to an m3u playlist. This will not work if you’re using a stalker based IPTV provider. You’re claim of “never coming across a provider that doesn’t require a mac address” (paraphrasing), is baseless. I’m using a provider now (and have used 3 others in the past) that do not require a mac address, and offer access to an m3u.

“Be careful” here could be translated to “Read the Readme”. Don’t bash the developer because they don’t have a solution for your exact use case.

If it’s a kiddies app then put on your big boy pants and develop something for stalker based providers.
