Is there any plan to release new versions of Plex Media Player?

Server Version#: 1.25.8.5663
Player Version#: 2.58

The major way I consume Plex content is using a HTPC connected to my TV… I love PMP because it allows me to use a remote control with keyboard emulation and has a great UI for use on a TV. I’m super happy with the app and how it functions with my docker hosted server.

I noticed the new discover feature for Plex and was super excited to have this on my TV, because it will completely cut out all the mouse and keyboard action I have to do to use Netflix, and other streaming services (9NOW, ABC On Demand etc here in Aus). Unfortunately though I note it’s not yet supported on PMP, and I notice also that PMP hasn’t been updated in nearly 2 years… No worries I thought, if Plex for Windows is the way forward I’ll install that - but then discovered it has no keyboard control etc :frowning:

So I guess my question is should I expect PMP to be updated to support the discover feature at any point or should I continue looking for another workaround?

No.

Take a look at Plex HTPC

Is there a reason that the Plex site still links to PMP instead of Plex HTPC? I had actively looked for a solution and still had no idea it existed… Not a criticism - it just seems odd that it’s so difficult to find if that’s the chosen path over PMP

Plex HTPC is still considered as a “preview” release. That’s why it is currently only available in the forum thread.
Once it is deemed sufficiently stable, it will replace PMP on the official download page.

That makes sense thanks. It’s there a tough timeline for that?

After having used Plex HTPC since it stated, I have gone back to PMP today.

It offers more customisation of tiles, switches to desktop with one click, handles passthrough better, appears faster overall and not encumbered with Discover etc.
