Plex Media Player for Windows Updates?

Hello, I am just raising this as a question to see if anyone knows if there will be updates to the Plex Media Player app for Windows? I am referring to the one that has a TV layout. Just wondering if we could get things like skip intro on it. I may be one of the only one who uses this version though.

Plex Media Player is not likely to receive any more updates.

If you use the TV mode then you should give Plex HTPC a try which does have skip intro. Introducing Plex HTPC!

FTR, you are not the only one that uses it.

I run both Plex and PMP on the same system. I keep it around because I have had cases Plex does some weird stuff. PMP has never failed to work in recent memory…certainly not since the last update a year ago.

So much for the commitment from plex to the PMP app.

Good to know the reversal on the decision to abandon the app was just a PR stunt so you could quietly do it later.

If you actually look at the post, you will see that the promises related to PMP (1 and 3) are:

  1. We will keep PMP in TV mode working as it is today and will fix serious issues which impact the product for the foreseeable future.

PMP still functions with current media servers.

  1. We are now actively investigating the best way to continue supporting HTPCs as a platform.

Plex HTPC is PMP’s successor (for TV mode).

Certainly looks like those promises have been kept.

Considering the PMP app hasn’t been updated in well over a year

Since May 2020 according to that link and there are plenty of needed bug fixes to that version needed; I’d say no, the commitment has not been met.

The HTPC app is based on the desktop app that the community rejected. It is not feature complete and is riddled with issues. It is not a replacement to PMP.
