Issue after upgrade to 1.40.2 - can't access plex server 503 Error

Server Version#: 1.32.8
Player Version#: Roku latest

I’m getting the below when trying to open plex server in my qnap nas tvs1282:
<Response code="503" title="Maintenance" status="Plex Media Server is currently running startup maintenance tasks."/>

I upgraded to 1.40.2 tonight using a manual qpkg as i normally do. after doing this, the plex server is inaccessible.

I tried restoring a backup database by following these instructions:
https://support.plex.tv/articles/202485658-restore-a-database-backed-up-via-scheduled-tasks/

but am still getting the 503 error.

Here are my media server logs:
Plex Media Server.log (1.7 KB)
Plex Media Server.1.log (2.3 KB)
Plex Media Server.2.log (1.8 KB)
Plex Media Server.3.log (1.8 KB)
Plex Media Server.4.log (1.8 KB)

this system isn’t letting me upload file 5 (maybe too big?).

Status message, not an error.

status=“Plex Media Server is currently running startup maintenance tasks.”

It is expected when updating to a release with many database changes.

EDIT: Also seeing Error binding acceptor: Address in use in the log files.

Something is holding the Plex port open.

Suggestion:

  1. Stop Plex Media Server.
  2. Reboot the NAS.
  3. Start Plex Media Server.

If you still see the 503 maintenance message, wait. Check every 30 - 60 minutes (refresh the browser window or close/open a new window). Depending on the size of the db and the speed of the CPU, it may take minutes or hours to complete.

I know in the linked threads I wrote to not stop/restart the process. However, you already restarted PMS 4 times in 13 minutes, so one more won’t hurt.

@FordGuy61 so should I stay on this older version? if so, should i still be seeing this maintenance message? I put my version in the post, but maybe it wasn’t obvious - i reverted to 1.32.8 cause I wasnt’ sure what was happening. So now I’m running on an older version.

Stay on 1.32.8.

Are you still receiving the 503 maintenance message?

If so, stop PMS, reboot the NAS, restart PMS.

If you still see the 503 message, wait.

The 1.40.x releases include a large amount of db changes. When you revert to 1.32.8 Plex must back out the db changes. That may take some time.

@FordGuy61 thanks - it did end up coming back up. thanks for your help!
