Hi to all!
i wrote also in italian section without great succes. Try to ask here willing more solutions!
i’ve some problem with connection between pc and shield.
The AS-IS:
Pc linked to router
Nas linked to router
Smartphone wifi
Shield wifi
chromecast wifi
When i try to manage contents using PC to shield, after some minute the connection fall down (message: “unable to connect to this player.” italian translation…). The media goes on the shield but “unmanageble”, only via smartphone no problem, no disconnection, i can manage the contents without any issue, some times the contents jump to pc, the music pass to pc headset (!!).
Instead, not problem using chromecast linked to avr (as the shield).
Any suggestion?
…up!?
The problem is related to connection fall down between PC (GUI to contral shield media server) and Shield (as media server)…
Some times go fine, some times connection fails and i can’t reach shield (that i see online!!)
Have you tried connecting the Shield TV to the router via ethernet cable?
this is a good suggestion! but:
- the router is in the opposite side of the room (i can’t link directly) but is very near to shield (4 meter).
- i have also chromecast, with i have no problem.
just to add another input:
when the connection falls down i have to restart shield PMS (restart shield!) to re-connect.
when the connection falls down i CAN SEE the “active process” in the PMS PC GUI of the shield but i can’t manage.
thank you!
What is the Plex Server version?
last version? (bad answer!
)
i have to check it later but android tv should auto update the app…no?
It should, but very often it is stuck at the version shipped with the Shield TV, until you force an update by using a web browser and visiting the Google play store.
ok, tonight i will try to update. But, web browser into the shield?
Yes. First, go to the Plex Server settings page using the web client and check the server version. It should be at least 1.7.4. If it isn’t, go to the Google Play Store on a computer web browser and push the update to your Shield TV.
ah ok, so i did it yesterday. First check after :s directly go to check if plex was updated. And it is.
uff,
I would run an ethernet cable to the Shield TV and test that connection.
ok, but in that case the pc will be via wi
fi…
after some minutes of testing i verified that the problem is related only to connect to Shield Plex server non client. Using the client (as chromecast) all goes fine.
Probably, considering that the server version is young, there is something to fix (ping plex developers!!!). I will continue testing.
I have a Shield as my primary server and I have tested and verified that connecting it wirelessly is a very very bad idea. No matter how good a wifi connection is it really is almost never good enough to provide the kind of stability that is needed to be a Plex server.
Wifi is subject to packet drops and other problems and signal strength is not a good indication of reliability. Interference is the real problem and even in clean environments there is significant interference in many cases.
The Shield, in most cases, makes an excellent server but it really needs a solid and stable network connection.
BTW: Plex servers should always be wired if you want stable reliable operation.
Thank you for your answer.
This could be the reason about the connection lost between pc GUI and PMS. But I would underline that if i use the PMS directly in the shield to play files from NAS (via wifi) i have no problem…also with heavy mkv file.
My problem is only related to PC GUI (pc is wired to router) and Shield PMS.
just to update, no problem using chromecast integrated inside shield. Very well!
Only problem with PMS. I will test with cable connection…
