Hi everyone,
I’ve noticed an issue with how collections and user access restrictions are handled in Plex, specifically regarding recommendations displayed on the home page.
Here’s the situation:
Plex allows us to select a collection to appear on the home page of users.
At the same time, it’s possible to restrict a user’s access to certain content based on tags (labels).
The problem is that if a collection is set to display on users home page, it will appear there even if the user is not supposed to have access to it due to tag restrictions. While the collection is correctly blocked elsewhere (e.g., in search), it still shows up as a recommendation row on the home page.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? Is there a workaround or setting I might have missed?
This is a known issue. Another forum thread with more details on the subject can be found here. We have an issue tracking this but I don’t have any ETA for when it’ll be addressed.
Hey @Atomatth, thanks for replying!
I did see the thread you mentioned, but since it’s been closed for over a year and the bug is still present, I thought it made sense to create a new one.
If you don’t mind reopening the one you linked (as it has more details) and closing this one instead, that would be great.
It is quite sad that this has no ETA on addressing as it prevents me from using this feature. I have children and would like to keep tabs on what they have available, this feature allows them to circumvent my specific wishes. Seems like this would be a bigger issue than it is being taken to be. I mean what is the point of permissions if the software ignores them.
I see it come up regularly on the discord channel and just link people to my thread where it is VERY well documented.
Nope. Sorry . I imagine this will get rolled into the larger Parental Controls improvement project we have planned. Unfortunately I don’t have any visibility for when that will be.
