Issue with iOS downloading Media

Player Version#:7.24.1 (iOS)

Just updated Server to latest version, now Downloads do not work at all on my iOS Devices. All fairly new, latest iOS, latest Plex App. More than enough storage left (over 100 GB left). Tried with several iOS devices, iPhones (12 Pro & 12 Mini), iPad (iPad Air 2020). I have an older Android Phone, it does work on that device, so it is not Network related! I am doing all this in the same network at home, not from outside. Plex Server is a Synology DS1821+. Streaming to TV and iOS is working just fine, just downloading is not working on my iOS devices.

I can see that transcoding starts in the Web interface. As soon as it finishes nothing happens, so it does not get uploaded to the iOS devive. FYI

Your issue is due to DNS rebinding protection on your router. See Plex iOS Download feature is unusable as it does not ever complete a download - #39 by MovieFan.Plex for more info. Read down from there.

What about when files complete transcode and according to the server activity have also downloaded but when finished the ios app simply says “Error downloading item”? Other files have downloaded fine. Some series simply will not download. They’ll work if I go back to Sync.

Sure. I’ll try it again and DM them to you later. Do you need the server and iPad logs? Same behaviour on my iPhone too with same files.

It’s a bug in iOS. Hopefully fixed in a future update.

I actually have two separate issues. One is that downloads don’t even start for anything I try to download on one Plex server. A different Plex server downloads but then automatically deletes the file just downloaded. Sending logs via PM.

For the first issue, I can’t tell what’s going on. Please turn off verbose logging in your server settings. Restart PMS and reproduce the issue and grab new logs.

For the second, check if the show you were trying to download has the option enabled to hide seasons? I recently found this breaks Downloads.

Looks like you’re right about the second issue. Interestingly enough, as soon as I turned off verbose logging and restarted the server, I can’t reproduce the first issue again.

May have just needed the PMS restart.

For anyone struggling as I was with some shows downloading and some failing, look at the genre tags in your server. Any show with ‘comedy’ won’t download. A fix is coming but a quick workaround is to delete that genre tag.

I am having problems trying to use the download function on my ipad running iOS15.1 and PMS 1.25.3.5385 on a QNAP NAS. The sync function worked fine for me but when I try and download a film the top left corner just continually spins and it doesn’t download. Please can I send the logs to somebody for you to look at?
