So I’ve lately been experiencing issues with the Nvidia Shield TV where it will no longer records anything even though I have plenty of space on the destination hard drive. It seems that it’s having issues with not enough free space on the Shield TV itself, but what’s odd is that I didn’t change any settings and if anything I have more free disk space right now than before the issue started (granter it was never all that much since it’s the 16 GB device).
Here is a portion of the log:
May 24, 2019 01:42:22.538 [2656] DEBUG - DVR:Grabber: checking for 2951 MB of available disk space in grab path and transcode cache path
May 24, 2019 01:42:22.547 [2656] WARN - Low disk space: 2.88GB source file, 11.05GB capacity, 1010.36MB available on “/storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.plexapp.mediaserver.smb/cache/Transcode/Sessions”

Any idea why this would just start happening from one day to the next? Also I thought I had turned off transcoding altogether (“convert video while recording” is set to off)…
Thanks for the reply! So I tried changing the storage location from Internal (system) to Internal (user) but the issue persists. I guess I will try using a USB flash drive and assume that will likely resolve the issue (not sure if performance will be affected).
What’s weird to me though is I changed nothing about my Plex setup and it went from having no issues recording to not being able to record at all. And it’s not like I had a lot of free storage space before and ran low, if anything I now have a bit more free space than I did when it was recording properly. I’m wondering if an update may have changed something…
Right I figured that, just thought it was worth a shot since this totally was working on the Shields limited storage before something apparently changed. Now I’ve tried attaching a 16 GB USB stick I had lying around and changed the storage to that…
Now things seem to be getting even worse. The status was stuck saying “Refreshing guide data, Initializing” for days. That seems to have finally finished, but now I can’t even seem to access the logs because when I use the web interface if I try to navigate to Troubleshooting (or just about anywhere else) I can’t access it, it says “server settings unavailable.” Is there another way to output the log files that I’m not aware of?
So I ended up completely removing the server and starting from scratch because things seemed pretty busted. I started over from scratch, made my USB thumb drive the storage location, and I’m still getting the same error:
ERROR - DVR:Grabber: Not enough free space in “/storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.plexapp.mediaserver.smb/cache/Transcode/Sessions”
I made sure that TV recordings are set to save to my network drive as well, so I have no idea why it’s trying to store anything locally on the Shield TV. Is there something I’m missing?
Unrelated issue: I can see the Live TV & DVR tab on my PC and Android phone, but not on the Shield… The same shield that IS the server…
Alright well after today’s PMS update I can now see the Live TV & DVR tab. I’m still getting errors referencing not having enough space in “/storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.plexapp.mediaserver.smb/cache/Transcode/Sessions” though.
I know I have recordings set to save to my network drive, as well as having set the storage location to a USB stick, so I thought I’d try changing the storage location back to internal, reformatting my USB stick on my PC, then changing the storage location back to the USB stick… and now the option in settings to change the storage location is no longer showing. I feel like I’m so close to getting this fixed, but time after time I keep running into inexplicable issues…
Edit: Forced close both Plex and PMS and now I can see Live TV & DVR. Will try moving the storage location to internal, reformatting the USB stick, then moving it back to the USB stick. If that doesn’t work do you have any other ideas?
