Issue with wrong association in Movies library

Hello,

I just have found an issue (which may already exist from the beginning but I do not know) with the movies library.

When a new movie is found, Plex associates its data with a movies database. It uses to be correct, but sometimes it is not.
The issue occurs when the association is wrong : the Folder.jpg that I downloaded for each movie is replaced by the one automatically found by Plex.
It is sad that the original data are replaced by automation, but most of all, when I correct the association and select the right picture, this time the Folder.jpg is not replaced by the right one, and the wrong one still remain.

Could you please correct this ? At least, the local file should be replaced by the selected picture.

Many thanks by advanced.

Eric

Did you disable ‘Local Media Assets’
in one or several of these places?

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase
    ?
    If you did, re-enable it.

Hello Otto,

Many thanks for your help.

No, it is enabled in Personal Media, Plex Movie and The Movie Database.
When I click on its parameters button, the “Local music video path” is empty. I do not know if this is correct or not.

That is inconsequential for video libraries.

Could you please post the Plex XML info of a movie, for which you have manually corrected the match?

Hello,

Here is the file (50239.xml inside the ZIP file).

B.R.

Eric50239.zip (3.1 KB)

OK, that is pretty standard. Matched with the default ‘Plex Movie’ agent
guid="com.plexapp.agents.imdb://tt0164181?lang=fr"

Which means
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
is what is responsible for this movie.
Now, at which position is the line ‘Local Media Assets’?
Is it on top or bottom? Above or below of ‘Plex Movie’?

It is at the top :’(

What happens, if you simply do a ‘Refresh Metadata’ on this movie?

Hello Otto,

I will perform the test as I will be back home.

I will do it with 2 movies as I manually replaced the wrong Folder.jpg for the one we were speaking about.

So I will see if the right picture is replaced

  • By the wrong one for the movie taken in example

  • By the right one for the other movie

Many thanks, again, for your help.

Eric

Hello Otto,

I performed the « Refresh Metada » action on both movies, but nothing changed.

The corrected associations have been kept and the two Folder.jpg files have not been updated, which means that, for the movie I changed the picture from Plex without updating the local file, the updated picture is still the one I changed and the JPG file is still the wrong one (ie. the one that has been firstly saved by Plex in place of the already existing one).

Of what JPG are you talking?
Are you expecting that Plex updates a JPG file which you put beside your video?
Please clarify.

Hello Otto,

Please apologize if I was not clear enough.

Let’s restart from the beginning :

Oh, I just have seen from the Web that the message I sent by e-mail was cut :’(

Here it is !

Hello Otto,

Please apologize if I was not clear enough.

Let’s restart from the beginning :
a. In a folder named “Movie”, I have a movie named (for instance) “Movie (year).mkv”. In the same folder, I have a picture named "Folder.jpg” which contains the picture of the movie.
b. Then I move the “Movie” folder from my PC to a NAS surveyed by Plex.
c. Plex identifies the change, the performs a quick scan.
d. The newly added movie then is added into Plex, but with the wrong association, and replaces the existing “Folder.jpg” file by the one which corresponds to the wrong association (and this is what I am not happy with : I understand that Plex replaces the picture in its own database, but not the original local file).
e. I manually correct the association in Plex, and makes it point onto the right picture, so all seems to be right in Plex.
f. But if I open the “Folder.jpg” file, located on the NAS, it has not been corrected and it is still the one replaced by Plex when it did the wrong association.
g. So if I want to correct that, I have to find the picture from Internet then replace the wrong “Folder.jpg” manually.

I hope it is more clear like this

Many thanks for your help.

Eric

Plex has no such feature to replace any folder.jpg in the media folders. What ever places this jpeg file there, it is not plex.
Maybe you have installed a 3rd party addon/plugin.

Thanks Otto,

Then I will try with the plugins disabled.
