Ive got issues with selecting rasplex as the primary player from the plex web app on my main PC. If i click the dropdown menu and select my rasplex i get an error saying: “there was a problem connecting to this player”. This is strange as i can connect to it from all other sources (via webapp from my server, my macbook, and via the android app on my phone). What could be the issue here?, and are there any logs about this anywhere?

Have you checked ‘Allow control of PHT from Plex Clients’ in Preferences->System->Services?
If other computers in the same LAN have no problem reaching RasPlex in the same way, then the fault seems located to the failing computer. My first suspicion would be some firewall issue, or possibly the use of an incorrect ‘gateway’ setting.
Ive tried disabling my firewall, its should not be a gateway issue, its dhcp assigned. I tried monitoring traffic using wireshark while trying to connect to rasplex via the web app - i do not see the IP address of the RasPlex player here.
If i do the same via the Plex Server (windows, via teamviewer), i can se alot of TCP traffic to and from the Rasplex player.
Ive recently updated to Rasplex 0.7 (cleaninstall) and updated to windows 10 on my pc, also cleaninstall. Ive changed the name and IP of the rasplex and still got the freeking issue :S. I am close to giving up and just getting my self used to do it via the server using teamviewer…
@moriarty7: I have no problems connecting to RasPlex through either Firefox or Chrome, and this goes for both of my RPi units, currently running RasPlex 0.7.1 both on my RPi1 and on my RPi2, so the failure you and some others get must be due to some significant difference between your setups and mine.
Possible suspects include anything that could interfere with network access, such as having RasPlex and PMS on separate LAN networks, or any active firewall on either the PC running the browser or the PC running PMS, which might block the casting traffic.
For example:
If I connect an RPi unit through a separate ISP connection to the Internet, different from the one used by my PMS server, then I can still access my PMS server from that RasPlex instance, both for browsing the library and for playback, and my PMS server still shows that RPi unit as available in the casting list of Plex/Web on a web browser, but all casting attempts will then fail…
So that is one kind of network configuration to avoid in order to have success casting to RasPlex.
Just updated to version 1.0, same issue. All devices are on same LAN, disabled firewalls. I been through a lot with this case. Can SSH/Ping the rasplex. As mentioned before ive tried monitoring the traffic when connecting to the player using wireshark and tcpdump. Let me know if you could use the dumps.
@holidaydk:
I still think your problem has to be due to something unique on the one computer that has this issue.
And it should of course be something related to network configuration to have this effect.
One thing not mentioned so far is what kind of network your LAN is defined as by the OS on this PC.
On a Win7 system this is shown in “Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network and Sharing Center”.
It can be set as ‘Work’, ‘Home’ or ‘Public’ network, and that setting does affect what Windows will allow.
In a LAN where most PCs have it defined as “Work” or “Home” any PC with “Public” will have less freedom than the other PCs in what it can do on the network.
If your PC runs OSX or Linux rather than Windows the same setting might not exist, but it might have some counterpart with similar effect.
For my own LANs I always get the best results with the “Work network” setting for all Windows PCs.

Plex Inc have found the issue and fixed it in the latest PlexWeb update, however, you won’t get this update until the next PMS server update as that is now how they update PlexWeb.
