How about uninstalling then reinstalling the player app on the TV?

Yes, that could be it.

You want Nvidiaā€™s driverrs to be in control with (i presume) nothing else attached to it unless youā€™re using nouveau as the GUI destkop driver

Whereā€™s the HDMI cable connected for display? Mobo or Nvidia?

How difficult would it be to:

  1. Make a ubuntu server 20.04.3 boot usb
  2. Put a HDD in an enclosure
  3. plug both USBs in
  4. Boot and install Ubuntu server to the USB drive
  5. Add a test plex and Nvidia drivers.

I suggest this because:

  1. I know ubuntu server works.
  2. I donā€™t know how Gentoo is .
  3. I do know Gentoo, for the large part, is an OS you configure and compile yourself.

There seem to be a lot of potential variables in flight and Ubuntu Server would eliminate the vast majority of them
