Items Falling Off EPG Before DVR Can Record Them

I don’t think there is a single person on this thread that would be complaining about Plex recording a show that was supposed to be a new airing but it turned out to be a rerun. Plex needs to err on the side of caution here. If the EPG has ever shown the show as new, no matter what happens later on, I would say just record the damn thing. :slight_smile:

Hmm, after doing some playing/checking with importing my own XMLTV listing which I know is good since it works in other programs Plex doesn’t seem to show if a show is new or not which is rather stupid. There is no easy way to tell what Plex thinks is new or not other then then Discovery/New Episodes Tonight section.

Anyone know of another way?

I just lost 4 more shows today. The shows were in the recording schedule this morning. I did the new server update which set off a refresh guide. After the guide refresh the shows were removed from the recording schedule.

I went to one of the shows that was removed and told it to record everything. New and repeats. It did not bring the show back. It says that the next episode is next week. It’s like the show isn’t even on tonight. The show is Riverdale.

Is there anyway to use another provider like Schedules Direct? I have a paid account with them as I am still using NextPVR.

Thanks

Phil

PLEX seems to only want to use GraceNote. So I would not plan on being able to use any other provider.

You can use an XMLTV provider but will need to delete the DVR and then set it back up choosing the XMLTV option.

@johnm_ColaSC
Wont you have to manually update the XML file every few days?

Yes you will be responsible for the XML this way.

@johnm_ColaSC and @cayars, thx for informing me. I am guessing you could make a bash script to get the XML file from your provider then just copy it over the old XML file on the server. Do you have to upload a new XML file from the PLEX web app or does PLEX just watch a directory for them?

Yes you can setup a script to pull this down from your provider to a known location on one of your HDDs.
When you setup Plex with this EPG you point it to the file location. Plex then imports this file on it’s normal schedule (or enhanced/more often) just like it does with Gracenote. If you go this route you will need to remap your channels and may not like the outcome of the presentation (I don’t).

But with that said I don’t know if this is the issue or not. I deleted my DVR today and set it back up with the XMLTV source I use for Emby which I know works fine and shows NEW shows. When Plex loaded this data it didn’t show NEW on any shows and also didn’t respect the categories like news, sports and lots of those showed up as movies.

The cause of this issue is a guessing game right now. Plex doesn’t log the reason why it removes a recording so that is no help even if you can make your way through the log files which is very tough to do even for those used to reading them. Both of these are areas that need massive improvement for daily use IMHO.

Just so everyone is aware I have traced down an issue where Plex was showing a recording for NCIS on my system last night up until 17:06. A guide refresh was running and finished at 17:08. At 17:09 the NCIS show was cancelled. I have a screenshot I had made the day before showing the episode as scheduled as a New episode. I have filed an incident report for this issue.

Hoping this yields results.

@kinoCharlino

Are our Plex gurus aware that this is happening? I too have missed several shows within the past week (that I’m aware of), almost all which start at 8pm (Eastern time) on several OTA channels. Shows include Lucifer (FOX), The Flash (CW), and Big Bang Theory (CBS) to name a few.

Yesterday I checked the program guide and The X-Files (FOX) WAS showing as airing tonight at 8pm, but checking today, it’s GONE. I do not have the more frequent program updates turned on, but even after running a manual refresh, it’s still not showing up.

I saw the same with The Flash yesterday, so I manually recorded the show 2 Broke Girls (which was airing right before The Flash) and had it record with an additional 60 minutes, which recorded The Flash, but that’s a pain to have to do for every show every day.

Is this a Plex issue? Or a Gracenote issue? Either way, this needs to be corrected quickly!

As always, we appreciate the hard work you guys are doing for us cable-cutters!

@JoeKurtz
See post directly above yours. I filed an incident report with Plex earlier today on this issue. My post was made to another thread and posted by @AmazingRando24 here.

Ok, thanks @johnm_ColaSC !

How does one file an incident report?

@Swatkats only a Ninja or Employee has access to the system.

Same here tonight. Earlier today I know I saw X-Files listed to be recorded and tonight it not only did not record but is just vanished from shows scheduled today on the Recording Schedule calendar view. No errors or notification in the GUI to say anything happened or didn’t happen.

I had posted in another thread before seeing this one. I assume when I lost my entire Recording Schedule yesterday it must be related to this. Shows were still showing in my right hand Recording Priority menu but my schedule was totally blank like nothing new was coming up. After multiple refreshes and switching back to 1.6.1 the schedule filled again so I switch back to the latest 1.12.1 this morning. If this is version related it’s too bad I didn’t just stick to 1.6.1 today. It literally is the only version that seems to work as expected but missing the use of Live TV sucks as well as missing other fixes (can you call them that??? lol) and features of newer versions.

Possibly related to this issue (underlying problem).

Same thing happened to me with The X-Files last night. Earlier it showed as scheduled, but it completely vanished when it was time to record. I couldn’t even find it in the Watch Now section. I’m about to bail on Plex as a DVR after this and the continual grid guide delays.

YES! I failed to mention that as well. I could not find it in the Watch Now either. Like the show didn’t exist but running over to my cablebox’d TV in fact it was on.

not related to the issue I am seeing. This past Sunday the four recordings that should have taken place on Sunday and Monday simply vanished from the recording schedule view along with all the rest of everything that was there. A couple refreshes of the EPG and switching back and forth from the latest 1.12 to 1.6.1 finally the shows returned. I went back to 1.12.xxx afterwards. Yesterday two of the three shows (Survivor and Chicago P.D.) I had seen on my recording schedule did complete. X-files however disappeared somewhere between about Noon and it’s starting time 7PM CST. Just vanished from the recording view and no GUI notifications to say anything. And as I noted above, couldn’t even be found on Watch Now. The show was on and is new and my Plex setup has never recorded it.
