I’m new to Plex and have been pulling my hair out trying to get things setup to work with Roku. Basically things are working as far as displaying on Roku. However, there are 270 songs in iTunes that aren’t in Plex.
Part of this is my fault as I changed some genres so I deleted the music files in Plex thinking it would bring them back when performing the Scan Library files. I have set the plugins with the path fo my iTunes library.
Additionally, I deleted and reinstalled the Plex Media Server.
If someone can help that would be terrific as I’ve spent all day yesterday and this morning on this.
To make sure I follow, you are pointing your Plex Media Server music library to the folder directory where your iTunes library is located?
For the 270 songs that are missing, where did you get them? Ripped from CD, purchased from iTunes, added from Apple Music, imported to iTunes from other source?
your comment, about pointing to the correct library, gave me an idea. I went to add a library and browsed on the folder. specifically clicked on the iTunes media folder. so I think it will reload the music. however, it’s only done 4 songs so far.
it just did the same 236 songs. not the additional 270 songs! somewhere Plex thinks these were deleted once and should remain deleted. I think this is a software defect.
I would like to just delete everything - the account and rebuild? not sure how to report this to Plex tech staff. I’m not a Plex Pass user and didn’t find a way to communicate with them. Thank you so much for reaching out.
Can you list some of the songs that weren’t included? Did you search for these in case they got added to Various Artist or maybe added as a duplicate to some other song?
Itunes has 2713 songs and Plex has 2425. How to make Plex “sync/reload” those songs previously deleted?
I don’t have any tv episodes in iTunes. I do have a view home videos.
Screen shots of file folders under in iTunes. Interestingly Kari Jobe had 2 folders empty but it plays her music. in the process of finding those songs and putting them in the folder! Hmmm.
I think I figured it out - when I deleted from Plex it deleted from iTunes library. yet iTunes was finding the songs in the trash? I’m rebuilding the folders under iTunes music. couldn’t just restore because I’ve deleted several other songs this week and there was a lot of music in my trash. it’s a manual process that will take most of the day. UGH. Does this make sense to you?
To me syncing is when I add or delete music from iTunes, I thought Plex would do that too. If not, it’s not worth much unless you have a stagnant library.
It depends on what iTunes actually does. Plex doesn’t look at the iTunes database, it only looks at the folder with the music files. If the presence of these files changes, then Plex will update. If iTunes just marks things are not in iTunes, but the files still exist, it won’t be reflected in Plex. And going backwards, I’m not an iTunes user so I don’t know how well it reacts to physical changes in the actual files, but if you delete from Plex, it does not trigger iTunes to automatically update. You need to update iTunes through it’s normal procedure.
