iTunes Plugin missing from PMS

Hi all,

Like a few others, I am having issues importing my iTunes playlists into PMS (no Smart playlists, all have been manually made and I have too many playlist to import individually, I also really want the playcount to be imported as well).

I have setup a server with remote access enabled, I can see and use my music files fine through both web and desktop versions. My iTunes library and Plex library are located on the same machine. But whenever I try to import from iTunes, nothing happens…

I have:

  1. Turned on Share iTunes Library XML with other applications under the Advanced heading of Preferences in iTunes.
  2. Exported the library as an .xml through File → Library → Export library.
  3. Enabled the iTunes plugin and included the iTunes Library XML file path (D:/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music Library.xml).
  4. Reset the server multiples times, turning the plugin either on or off each time.
  5. Added a library, making sure the import from iTunes option was selected.
  6. Added a playlist, any playlist, to make the Playlist context menu appear in the sidebar.

None of that has worked; no playlists, metadata or play counts have been imported.

As with others, the Import playlist from iTunes option is missing from the Playlist context menu, which makes me think that the plugin isn’t working.

I then checked under Settings → Manage → Plugins and the iTunes plugin isn’t showing up in the menu.

I would really appreciate any help in installing the plugin and importing my iTunes playlists and metadata!

I believe you are only suppose to have the path, not including the file itself.

Thanks for responding.

From reading on the forum, I am fairly sure it has to be the file that is specified, not just the path to the file.

Either way, it doesn’t matter whether or not the file path is correct or not as the iTunes plugin itself is missing. Without the plugin, nothing will be imported.

There is no external iTunes plugin anymore. The code for the plugin to do the import in built into PMS.

Please try importing your library again and then provide me the entire log package from PMS.

Firstly, thanks for taking the time to look at this for me :slightly_smiling_face:

Just on a quick note, these two topics are where I read that that the library path needs to be the file path and not just the folder path:

I deleted the library and then imported it again, the logs are attached.

Are your paths to the music files from iTunes the same as your new Plex library? They must be identical. i.e. If your iTunes songs are stored in “D:\iTunes”, your Plex library must also point to the same folder using the same path “D:\iTunes”.

I can’t see in your logs where it’s even trying to import.

I did have my music folders in a separate location to the iTunes one, but I had iTunes directed to the right folder, so I thought that info would be transferred across in the library.xml folder.

I consolidated my iTunes library and re-created the library.xml file, deleted the music library from Plex, then re-imported, choosing the import from iTunes option. Still hasn’t come across with playlists or play counts, and the Import from iTunes option on the context menu for playlists is still not showing.

Logs from that set of actions:
