Anyway, I can imagine that your issues with Plex have already been described in other threads, so I simply wish you luck with whatever other solution you decide to use.
declan_dorney_gmail_com,
Most times issues with plex not picking up a show correctly is the naming of the root folder for the show or the episodes themselves. I would recommend using another package such as sonarr for tv shows and radarr for movies. You do not have to use them for downloading purposes you can just use them to do your shows naming conventions.
Basically you can add the show in sonar then sonarr will create the folder with the proper naming convetion and then move you files into it. Once the files are in the directory structure you can even have sonarr rename the video files for you as well. It is great for automation. I have over 800 TV shows that I manage with sonarr for the family and it works perfectly with Plex.
I have been managing media for almost 10 years now and Plex has been for me at least the best out there. It is time consuming to manage your files properly. But if you do Voila!! set it and forget it…
I would send some links for the apps I recommended but I don’t know how plex would respond to that. Just do a google or bing search and it should get you started.
Oh I forgot to add once folders/shows have been renamed you will need to rescan your library in Plex.
Come on it’s New years I know how frustrating it is trying to organize media. You can get pretty ticked off. Especially if you are relatively new and don’t understand the concept of how the naming works. He will probably have to recreate his library if he has already made a lot of manual entries for shows. If he has already done that no matter what he does it may not pick up the show correctly. Let’s try and be constructive, trust me the first time i setup plex it was overwhelming and I have been a software developer for over 20 years
declan_dorney_gmail_com,
Once again if plex is flakey you need to give us some examples of how. Most likely it is a configuration issue. Don’t be so vague or people will just think you are some keyboard warrior poking at Plex and wont take you serious.
I will be happy to try and help along with many other users here in the forums.
Well post them up. You will be surprised if you are cordial and post properly people will respond. But just saying ie: flaky on some things some people will just ignore you. Some of us here take it personal. many of us have spent a lot of time trying to help users/developers make this a great product. Good feedback is the key to developing great software.
Plex retrieves tv info from the TV DB, so if/when metadata is wrong, that is where it generally comes from and must be corrected at.
If you do not want plex to provide metadata, then you must change the agent or library type to something that doesn’t use online metadata sources.
it your tv library and change the agent to ‘personal media shows’ then it should use your local art etc, but you won’t get any online metadata (like show/epsidoe summaries, reviews, ratings etc)
if it is just a single show you are having problems with, check the tvdb, and make sure that it has the show, then you can ‘fix match’ in plex to find the show to match.
once it is matched, it will use that tvdb info, images etc.
if you simply do not like the info etc that tvdb provides, you can change your own, but you must ensure the LOCK is enabled (ie yellow/orange) for your changes to remain permanent.
plex should remember the chosen or download art, if not then you have some bigger problem going on.
