Yeah sometimes it is just as simple as not naming the folder properly. For example d:\plex\tv\FullCustomGarage in stead of d:\plex\tv\Full Custom Garage\ for the linux peeps /var/plex/tv/open/Full Custom Garage/
because the parsing engine does not use multicharacter hashes it searches based on complete words and if there are two shows with the same name include the year of the show.
d:\plex\tv\Taken (2017)\ vs d:\plex\tv\Taken\ those are two different shows and have different TVDB entries.
TeknoJunky,
Thank you so much for the tips.
What screen sots do you need?
I will try & help you but I think you’ve helped me
Thanks,
just open Plex Web
navigate to the show you are having a problem with, take a screenshot of how it is, and how you want it to be
I use a free program called irfanview to crop/edit screenshots as needed
then you can simply copy/paste the image(s) into a reply
Example:
All images are d/led from thetvdb.com
- I add a new show & folder to Plex with a custom image in the same folder.
- I follow the Plex naming convention (of course I do!)
- I add a NEW show to Plex with custom image.
- Suddenly one of my shows now has this image instead of the one I supplied.
Now you can call me f*cking stupid but I would expect Plex to remember the image I set for the first show & not just randomly take the image from the new show which has absolutely NOTHING to do with it.
Yeah, I know.
Thanks for any help (maybe it’s just me).
Oh I may know what the issue is. if you use the same name for the custom image. For example poster.jpg it could literally be a caching issue with your client. I try and make sure my custom poster have unique filename(s) d:\plex\tv\Full Custom Garage\Full Custom Garage Poster.jpg
if you just name it poster you could have issues.
you absolutely shouldn’t have a new show image affect any other existing show.
starting to sound like perhaps maybe your database and/or file system has some corruption ?
if you can consistently reproduce the issue, I recommend you try to do so in isolation and capture the logs.
for logs info see post @ Help us help you - how to provide logs to get your problems identified and hopefully resolved
This problem has been reported many times by many users, myself included. No-one has been able to solve it so far.
Maybe it is a windows version issue. I have never had it happen on Linux before. But I know people attaching to SMB Linux based Nas units have had issues like this. Sometimes Windows just does not accept some of the naming conventions. MASH is one of them specifically. Windows will see the folder as something like Z:\tv\closed\M9UXW7~M\ instead of Z:\tv\closed\MASH
But yeah send some screens shots. Also you can use the troubleshooting section under settings in PMS to optimize database and clean bundles etc. Also where you would get logs to upload as well.
I’ve not see any image issues, but I don’t use custom images, and run linux as server, so maybe it simply doesn’t affect my usage.
Hi all,
I’m glad i suppose that it’s not just me?
This is what I’m trying to fix all the time.
And all the time it just reverts, just one show but the date also is reverted to some no-date date IYKWIM.
Thanks again,
I will do the Plex dance right now & see what happens.
Thanks,
Don’t forget to give Sonarr a shot. https://sonarr.tv/ You will be surprised what it will fix for you with naming issues.
Jon
Hi again,
Wouldn’t you know it, Plex is working as I want it to.
I’m not sure if it will ‘remember’ next time it does a refresh of its database.
I want to thank all of you for your help
I mean it.
Thank you all for your help.
It’s difficult at times to try & promote something to your nearest & dearest in these times when I go WTF.
Thank you all & have a great New Year.
I’m sure I’ll be back at some stage.
But for now, thanks for all your help.
Best regards

No, neither do I, Plex just misassigns episode images from the wrong shows sometimes.
Glad you got it fixed !!! Happy New Year!!! Hopefully it stays
Hi PlexJon,
Hopefully it does indeed!
Thanks to you & JCHH & TeknoJunky especially for all the help.
I really appreciated it & am very grateful.
Happy New Year to you all anyways! LOL.
There’s nothing wrong with that.
After 7 or 8 years of Plex that happens to me at least twice a year.
In years gone by it was more like twice a month. ![]()
Why invest time at all by even replying?
As a first time forum poster, I was amazed by the insensitivity showed. Of course you and anyone else has the right to not invest any time. But, why bother stating so?
As I said, as a first timer here, I thought it odd; and thought I’d mention it. Of course, I’m sure others will respond similarly to this.
Declan: Glad everything worked out for you.
Not sure what to think about that statement. But welcome to the Forums.
