I've given up on Plex

Hi @legendsofbatman

I had already stated that I was only posting to wish him luck.

He replied by giving me some details of the problem - the implication being that I was going to do something about it. I therefore re-clarified that I would not as it’s not nice to leave someone hanging.

To me, “investing time” means serious effort trying to help clarify the problem, analyse it, explain a solution and even help implement it etc - potentially hours and hours of work (not the 2 mins it took to reply). …I’ve been left hanging on forums for days by people who start helping but then disappear when they get bored or distracted. I don’t do that. If I offer to help, I stick around until I can do no more.

So, whilst I was not going to “invest time” which would be wasted (as he/she had already stated he/she was leaving), I was trying to be nice and friendly.

I do not believe I was being insensitive:

  • My very first post in this thread was to wish him luck.
  • My second post was to clarify my position and still wish him luck.

I was trying to be friendly whilst also being honest about my intentions. Sorry, that did not come across, but perhaps that is due to cultural or life-experience differences?

You say you are a first time poster but if you’ve been reading the forum for a while you have undoubtly seen posts from people who are done with Plex. Very often all they are really doing is venting and looking for help.
This guy seemed sincere so it’s reasonable to wish him luck and not bother wasting time trying to fix issues he has given up on.
If you find that offensive I’m afraid the Internet is going to be highly stressful for you. :fearful:

I dont know now, either. But, thanks for the welcome

Actually, I can understand that.

It just strikes me odd when people say they don’'t want to invest the time, or, similar things, such as people who spend money on a premium call to respond “Unsure” on a survey, and similar things. So, it just hit me as odd, when I read your post.
Probably the mood I was in.
Sorry, as well.

That was actually my first post read, and posted. Here.
It just struck me as odd that someone would take the time to say they didnt want to take the time.

So what is with the M9UXW7~M? I see it on my Mac.

Sounds like a bad mount. If there’s incompatibilities between the storage OS, the network / file-sharing protocol and the OS from where you want to access those files, folder/file names can get scrambled.

Could be one of them doesn’t like the *s in the folder name.

Usually when I see folder names like this it is because their are special characters in the title.
For example * or ! will do it for me. I do not know if this is what is going on for the mac I just know it happens in Windows.

I think this is right.

This is what I saw on my NAS when special characters were in the name (connecting from. my Mac over SMB). It was never a problem when I used to connect via AFP. The solution was to simply use my NAS’ own file manager and remove those special characters.
